DC Studios co-CEO and Chairman James Gunn gives a positive reply to a DC’s Legends of Tomorrow fan-made comic centered around saving the CW show.
Another DC’s Legends of Tomorrow fan petitioning to save the series has earned a reply from James Gunn. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, one of The CW’s Arrowverse shows centered around various DC heroes, ended earlier this year after an impressive seven seasons. The series earned a passionate fan base during its run, who have been vocal about their desire to bring back the series after its cancelation due to the many loose ends left unresolved in the season 7 finale, titled “Knocked Down, Knocked Up.” After Gunn’s recent appointment as co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, he alluded to the possibility of bringing back DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, but expressed that he would not be prioritizing revivals.
Despite Gunn’s reported interest in bringing new stories to the screen, the #SaveLegendsofTomorrow moments has continued to grow, with fans of the CW show taking to social media to petition for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 8. Previously, some of the more demanding social media users have elicited frustration from Gunn, though he has acknowledged that the bulk of messages he has gotten about DC’s Legends of Tomorrow have been respectful. Now, Gunn has once again taken to Twitter to reply to a DC’s Legends of Tomorrow fan, this time expressing appreciation for a comic they created in which Guardians of the Galaxy characters Rocket Raccoon and Groot also petition to save the CW series. See Gunn’s reaction to the post below:
Will James Gunn Save Legends of Tomorrow?
Gunn is not the only major player to have responded to fan requests about the DC’s Legends of Tomorrow revival, with White Canary actor Caity Lotz and the show’s writers showing support for the #SaveLegendsofTomorrow campaign. The series wouldn’t be the first to be saved after network cancelation, with Fox series Lucifer getting axed by the network only to be saved by Netflix after a fervent fan campaign. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow could face a similar trajectory and finally give viewers the closure they have been craving.
The positive interaction between Gunn and the comic posted by the Campaign #SaveLegendsofTomorrow Twitter account shows that there is no bad blood between Gunn and the crowd eager to bring back Legends of Tomorrow, despite more negative interactions having previously come to light. In addition, Gunn stated that he and co-CEO Peter Safran are “listening & open to everything as we embark on this journey,” showing that he will be taking the opinions of DC fans under consideration as the pair implement their plans for the new DC Universe. Though most of the Arrowverse shows have been canceled by The CW, Superman & Lois is still safe, meaning that the Arrowverse isn’t yet gone for good.
Despite Superman & Lois remaining intact, that series takes place on a different Earth than DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, making it difficult for the former to help the latter return to the fold. However, Gunn could combine his desire to focus on original stories and the wishes of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow fans by introducing a soft reboot of the series outside The CW, possibly on HBO Max, where Gunn’s DCU series Peacemaker currently resides. If Gunn were to pursue that course of action, it would potentially involve the Arrowverse as a whole branching out into a new direction, which likely won’t happen for a long time due to Gunn’s focus on other projects in the DCU. Regardless, it’s heartening to see that Gunn continues to appreciate DC’s Legends of Tomorrow fans.
