The Avengers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have more than earned their title of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Just as impressive and formidable are the members of the Justice League in DC Comics, which includes the powers of various Green Lanterns.

If the Green Lantern Corps existed within the MCU, there is no doubt that some members of the Avengers would be worthy of such power. However, other Lantern Corps may have their say in the matter of which Avengers would receive specific colors.

The Green Lantern Corps is officially getting an HBO Max series, which will focus on the iconic character of John Stewart, exciting fans around the world. With a renewed interest in the various Lantern Corps of the DC Universe, as well as the continued popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it enters Phase 5, there are many Avengers that would fit in perfectly to specific divisions of the space-faring superheroes.

Iron Man – Green

If Tony Stark had not gone through his hardship in the first Iron Man, he might have been chosen by the Orange ring because of his selfish lifestyle. Fortunately for the MCU, Tony changed for the better. His actions and change of outlook made it clear that he would be more than welcome in the Green Lantern Corps, signifying the strength of his willpower.

If Tony had a Green ring, it is possible that he might not even need the physical armor and would create a construct of it instead. An Iron Man Green Lantern armor would have the same capabilities, except using green energy blasts and weapons. The only caveat is that Tony might bristle under the authority and rules of the Corps.

Captain America – Blue

The courage and fearlessness of Steve Rogers before and after receiving the super-soldier serum could have made him worthy of the Green Lantern Corps. However, if there is one thing that Captain America and his shield inspire, it is hope and the promise of tomorrow. Therefore, Steve would be chosen by the Blue Lantern Corps.

Steve’s Lantern powers are limited only by his hope, and the MCU has shown that Steve always believed and hoped against all odds. According to the DC Comics canon, Blue is at its strongest when paired with Green and vice-versa. Similarly, Steve was at his strongest when he was with the Avengers, and if Steve partnered with Tony and his green ring, they would be unstoppable, especially given their strong bond and relationship.

Hulk – Indigo

Because of the duality of monster and man, it would be tricky to pinpoint which Lantern represents the Hulk. The Hulk of old easily would be a Red Lantern, but Bruce Banner himself is a different story. In the past, Bruce has always been fearful for the safety of others, and this compassion would make Bruce a fitting member of the Indigo Tribe.

If Banner wore the Indigo ring as the Hulk, its power would be enough for Bruce to temper the Hulk and even attain the “Professor” form seen in Avengers: Endgame. If paired with Steve’s Blue and Tony’s Green, Hulk could even use their powers thanks to the ring’s abilities.

Thor – Ultraviolet

Thor was one of the most developed Avengers throughout the Infinity Saga, but it all came to a crashing halt in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. For years, Thor expressed bitter resentment, shame, and guilt that never entirely left him even after making peace with all the deaths he was responsible for. As a result, the Ultraviolet Corps might have sought him out.

DC characters like Sinestro and John Stewart overcame the Ultraviolet corruption. Therefore, Thor would need to temper his repressed emotions so that he would not fall under the influence of the Ultraviolet Light. Now that Thor has moved on from the lowest points of his life, as seen during the events of Thor: Love and Thunder, he is more likely than ever to conquer this power and use it for good.

Black Widow – Violet

If there is one emotion that defined the later years of Natasha Romanoff’s life, it is love. In the Black Widow movie, she lost and regained love among her family, and then in Endgame, she was crushed by the loss of her new family, the Avengers, and the fall of Hawkeye. With this great capacity for love, Natasha could be a candidate for the Star Sapphires.

In addition to the usual Lantern ring powers, Violet rings allow for teleportation, which would be handy for Nat in battle and give her a superpower. If she is with the other Avengers, the familial love she has will not only strengthen the ring, the romantic love she has for Bruce will boost her powers even further.

Hawkeye – Green

Clint Barton may be a down-to-earth “Arrow Guy,” but he has proven that he is one of the best Avengers. It takes an enormous amount of skill, determination, and dedication to keep up with the chaos of the MCU. The Green Lantern Corps would be lucky to have somebody like Hawkeye.

Having a Green ring means that Clint would no longer be held back by the limitations of a bow, as he could create a construct of one from thin air. He could even make an unlimited supply of construct arrows, though the downside is that they are just plain arrows, as trick arrows require more technical skills beyond Lantern powers.

War Machine – Green

James Rhodes is a military man at heart with his distinguished record and professionalism. Even after the injury he sustained during Captain America: Civil War, his appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showed that he never gave up his rank and affiliation with the military. As such, the duties and goals of the Green Lantern Corps would fit War Machine like a glove.

Like Tony with a Green ring, Rhodey may not even need the physical armor if he can create a construct. Rhodey’s War Machine Green Lantern armor may be more powerful than Tony’s because he could also replicate the firepower and physical weapons. Also, unlike Tony, Rhodey would have the discipline and responsibility to be a dutiful member of the Corps.

Falcon – Indigo

Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are the two MCU works that focus heavily on Sam Wilson. He is highly empathetic in both of these installments and understands those around him. If The Falcon were to become a member of the Indigo Tribe, he could turn his great compassion into a weapon.

If Sam had an Indigo ring, his most significant fight in the MCU could have gone differently. Unlike others, Sam sympathized with and understood the plights of Flag-Smasher leader Karli Morgenthau. An Indigo ring has the power to make its enemies compassionate to those they wronged, and if Sam used it on Karli, she might have regained her conscience and surrendered peacefully.

Scarlet Witch – Yellow

As seen in WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff’s actions in Westview have made her someone to be afraid of. The full awakening of her powers and the birth of the Scarlet Witch was something even other magic users feared. With that sheer power and fear around her, the Sinestro Corps could be unstoppable.

Wanda might be able to resist the dark power of the Yellow ring, despite all that has happened to her. She can do that with her powers over Chaos Magic, but only if she faces and conquers her biggest fear. Even after her actions in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, she is still capable of change.

Vision – White

Vision was born into the world as an entirely new kind of being. Unlike Ultron, he sees the beauty of life and regrets if he is forced to kill. White Lantern rings, powered by life, are exceedingly rare, but Vision would be more than worthy of one.

The White ring is empowered so long as its bearer embraces life, and the logical Vision, fascinated by life, is more than up to the challenge. Those who mastered the White ring can also access every other Lantern color. Vision is already powerful, and he would be on a whole new level if he had the abilities of the entire Emotional Spectrum.

Spider-Man – Blue

Peter Parker and a blue ring

Spider-Man is a unique character in the Marvel Universe who, regardless of the incredible trials that he has endured in his young life, refuses to ever give up hope. Consequently, his actions and resilience inspire great hope in those who admire him, making him the perfect new recruit for the Blue Lantern Corps.

So often, Peter Parker has been forced to live with regret over the people in his life that he could not save but, with the power of the Blue Lanterns, he could make such occurrences far rarer with his ability to heal wounds and save the dying. With this incredible new ability, he would inspire even more hope than ever before, continuing to be one of the world’s greatest heroes.

Doctor Strange – Green

Doctor Strange and a Green Ring

Doctor Stephen Strange is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most complex heroes, whose power over the Mystic Arts burdens him with one of the greatest responsibilities ever known to man. Because of his constant grappling with the greater powers of the universe and refusal to be corrupted by them, Strange would make a brilliant Green Lantern.

Doctor Strange isn’t afraid to make tough choices, as evidenced by his actions in Infinity War and Multiverse of Madness. As such, his willpower and courage are far above many others in the MCU. Additionally, he is already quite adept at using a similar power to the one that the Green Lanterns wield, making him a surefire candidate for their organization.

Bucky Barnes – Yellow

Bucky Barnes and a Yellow Ring

Bucky Barnes, the former Winter Soldier, is one Avenger who constantly struggles to overcome his dark past, when he was a brainwashed assassin working for Hydra. Now redeemed and free of Hydra’s control, Bucky fights out of fear of returning to the monster he once was, making him a possible candidate for Sinestro’s Yellow Lantern Corps.

While Bucky now fights for good, many of his actions are driven by the fear of what he once was, making him vulnerable to the Yellow Lantern’s power. However, the strength of character that Bucky has developed as a result of his tribulations could also make him capable of conquering the power of the Yellow Lantern and using it for good.

Nebula – Red

Nebula and a Red Ring

Nebula certainly didn’t start out as a hero, nor did she ever seem to consciously become one. Her dark past wherein her father Thanos continually tortured and abused her left Nebula with a calloused heart and few loved ones. Though she fights for the light now, she is often motivated by her seething rage just below the surface, aligning her with the likes of the Red Lanterns.

The Red Lanterns are often described as antiheroes, a category into which Nebula certainly falls. Attaining the power of the Red Lanterns would finally give Nebula an outlet for her intense anger, especially after she was robbed of revenge against her father Thanos. Whether or not she would ultimately use that power for good remains to be seen, but fans can get a new glimpse of Nebula’s current alignment in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Black Panther – Indigo

Black Panther and an Indigo Ring

Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, a.k.a. the Black Panther, is one hero with whom audiences didn’t get to spend nearly enough time. However, during his tenure in the MCU, T’Challa proved to be a worthy king of Wakanda, changing longstanding national policies out of compassion for the outside world, making him the perfect embodiment of everything the Indigo Tribe.

T’Challa’s ultimate quest in the MCU was about righting the wrongs of his ancestors and making a better world for everyone to live in. His love for others will be the legacy that drives his friends and family to uphold his values long after he is gone, a theme that’s prominent in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
