For Resident Evil 4 Remake players that have played through the game a bit, they may have noticed something called Wayshrines early on in the game that were locked. These Wayshrines each hold valuable items the players may sell for a high price to the Merchant, but their key must be found first.

There are five Wayshrines in total, and they only appear in the first several chapters, so none will be found or accessed after Chapter six. Despite being seen early on, they will not become unlockable until retrieving the Old Wayshrine Key from a boat dock in Chapter 4, so there will be some backtracking to open all of them.

Where To Find The Old Wayshrine Key

The Old Wayshrine Key will only be found after reaching Chapter 4. Once Del Lago has been defeated, players will head for the Boathouse. After arriving, follow the only available path that will eventually end up at a cave entrance. There will be some Ganados along the way. After reaching the cave, Leon will come upon a mural with two large stone hands; this is one of the two cave shrine puzzles, which must be solved to receive the Church Key, but for now, continue.

Keep going through the cave, past the shrine, and along the path. Eventually, the cave will end at a small open area where there is a second dock. To the left will be a note mentioning the hunt for a Golden Chicken Egg in Resident Evil 4 Remake, and off to the right, there will be a shrine with a little wooden box sitting on it. Open the box, and the Old Wayshrine Key will be inside it. Players will now be able to open all the Wayshrines. Now that Leon holds the key to the Wayshrines, some backtracking through the first few areas of Resident Evil 4 Remake will be required. Although they can be unlocked in any order, do not proceed into Chapter 7 before unlocking them all. After that point, returning to any of the village areas will require reloading saves. Additionally, players can also collect 5 Blue Medallions in the Village Area if they are trying to complete the Merchant’s request. The locations of the Wayshrines are detailed in the chart below.

Wayshrines are marked as treasure points on the map. Looking for this will make them easier to locate.

River Wayshrine

The first Wayshrine will be accessible by boat. It is down the river, past the large cave shrine puzzle. It will be on the first docking point on the left when heading from that direction.

Splendid Bangle

Quarry Wayshrine

Just North of the Quarry, after heading up some stairs and passing the purple Merchant Shop light on the left, continue straight down the path. There will eventually be an area off to the left containing the next Wayshrine.

Butterfly Lamp

Lakeside Wayshrine

Take the boat to Lakeside Settlement and return to the house off to the right of the main area. The Wayshrine is on a little path around the back left of the house.

Pearl Bangle

Farm Wayshrine

For this Wayshrine, head back to the Farm area. Head over near the gatehouse area and under the small wooden bridge. The Wayshrine is just off to the left.

Antique Pipe

Checkpoint Wayshrine

This Wayshrine can’t be found until Chapter 6. When in the Checkpoint area, defeat the two women with chainsaws and then head across the wooden bridge to the platform containing the final Resident Evil 4 Remake, Wayshrine.

Elegant Headdress

As noted in the chart above, each Wayshrine will provide its own reward that can be sold to the Merchant. However, if looking for a larger payout, some items can be inlaid with the gemstones to increase their value. Different gem combinations will create different multipliers on the base sell price, with the max combination being the object inlaid with gems of all different colors. With the Pesetas earned from selling the treasure, Resident Evil 4 Remake players can purchase upgrades for their weapons. This will make fighting enemies such as Ganados throughout the rest of the playthrough a much more enjoyable experience.
