Close examination of the latest trailer for Tears of the Kingdom reveals the presence of four Tears. The Tears appear to be small gemstones of some kind, each with a different color. Most prominently, a yellow Tear is seen in the possession of both an unidentified woman and Zelda herself at various points, suggesting a strong connection between the two. Similarly, Zora Prince Sidon is seen wearing a gauntlet with a blue Tear, and the Rito Tulin is in possession of a green Tear. Finally, and ominously, Tears of the Kingdom’s Ganondorf is shown reviving with a red Tear apparently affixed to his forehead, meaning four of the seven Tears are now accounted for.
TOTK’s Tear Reveal Also Gives Hints Towards The Unseen Tears
The reveal of TOTK’s Tears also provides some clues as to the whereabouts of the missing three. All the Tears so far have been seen in the position of prominent figures, so it is logical to assume that the others follow this pattern. For example, as Tulin is the son of Teba, who aided Link in BOTW as Sidon himself did, it could be that two of the remaining Tears are in the possession of Riju and Yunobo, the other successors to BOTW’s Champions. Similarly, it would also make sense for Link himself to be in possession of a Tear.
Another interesting detail of note is that given the colors revealed so far, the Tears appear to bear the colors of the rainbow. If true, the missing Tears should therefore be colored orange, indigo, and violet. Of course, little has been revealed about the actual significance of the Tears so far, and what they may be used for. However, given Ganondorf’s dramatic revival, with crimson energy and Malice erupting from him, it is possible that they possess incredible mystic powers. This would also explain why Sidon and Tulin are carrying their own Tears into battle.
The final trailer for Tears of the Kingdom includes a vast range of content with exciting revelations, the appearance of the Tears themselves being only one. However, while much of the context is absent from most of these reveals, the appearance of the Tears helps to contextualize what has been seen before, and even hints at other aspects of the game. And with three Tears still unaccounted for, speculation will doubtlessly be rife as to their locations, as well as whatever abilities they may grant their bearers.
