Snag is part romance, part action, and part comedy. The new film follows an assassin named Snag (Ben Milliken) who thinks that the love of his life, Valentina (Sofía Castro), is dead. When he discovers otherwise, he does whatever he can to get her back.
Jaime Camil plays Snag’s best friend, Marco, who is also a deadly assassin. He owes Snag his life and is willing to help him rescue Valentina from her captors. This has been a busy year for Jaime, who also stars in Schmigadoon season 2, which is currently airing on Apple TV+.
Screen Rant spoke with Camil about his role as Marco in Snag and what it was that made him want to be a part of the film. He also spoke about working with Ben Milliken while he was both starring and directing in the movie and explained all the work he put into his stunts for the fight sequences.

Screen Rant: This movie was so fun. I’d love to know what made you want to be a part of it.
Jaime Camil: The script. It’s such a well-written script. It has a compelling love story. Action movies, like Quentin Tarantino-esque action movies, how many explosions can you fit on a film without the audience getting bored?
I think the difference here is the impossible love story between my dear friend and director and producer and gaffer Ben Milliken. And also my dear friend, fellow Mexican, Sophia Castro. She’s just so charming and great in the movie, and they have great professional chemistry, Sophia and Ben. But I think their love story makes a difference. Because yeah, we have action. And we have fight scenes. And it’s super fun to shoot and everything, but they do have a very beautiful, compelling romance going on. And I think that makes a difference.
There’s a little bit of a bromance in there too, with Marco and Snag.
Jaime Camil: Yes, yes, there is. I’m not gonna lie. There is, but between assassins? When they say hi to each other, they fight.
Can we talk about fighting in the sand? I was cracking up because I felt like, “They must have gotten sand everywhere on their bodies.”
Jaime Camil: I don’t know if this is correct or not because this is not my language. But is it proper to say in every crevice of our bodies? When he kicks me, can you imagine the amount of sand I got inside of my eyes?
How long did it take to get sand off?
Jaime Camil: Two months and a half.
I don’t want to give spoilers, but I just love how it ends.
Jaime Camil: Yeah, exactly. And CJ Perry, no fair, right? Because she knows how to fly kick people. So, the fact that she was very patient with me, when we were choreographing the fight scenes and everything it was it was fun. But also, in the final scene with her, I’m a little bummed because we had to cut it short and it was meant to be longer. But the sun was coming out and Ben had to make the executive decision of saying hey, listen, let’s just cut this. It’s good. It’s compelling. It’s amazing. And I’m like, no Ben, we rehearsed hard we really want to fight like the whole thing. And we couldn’t.
I enjoyed what I saw. Did you do every single fight yourself or did you have any stunt people?
Jaime Camil: No! Hollywood, they’re mad, because they’re like, “Okay, no, for safety reasons, we have to run the whole fight with a stunt [double].” And I’m like, “No, you don’t. We’re good. We can do the fight.” “Okay, you do the fight from beginning to end. But also, let’s shoot the fight with the stunt team.” I’m like, “But you don’t have to. We are good.” When I see the final edit, I do see where they use the stunt parts of it. They had no need, but whatever.
How would you describe your character, Marco?
Jaime Camil: I do like him a lot. He’s funny. He’s a professional assassin but he’s also Snag’s best friend. The fact that both humans show up for honor and show up for friendship. And the fact that he decides to leave this organization because he has very important news to tell Snag, and then decides to embark on this epic battle against the baddies. But technically, we were baddies as well, so the baddies have gone goodies. It was super fun. I think that movie is really entertaining. I think people will really enjoy it.
How would you describe the movie Snag for people to get them to check it out?
Jaime Camil: Oh my God. Action, romance, comedy, all packed in one package. Vry neatly and well packaged. It’s so fun. I think Ben Milliken does an amazing job directing the movie. Also, I think, of course, starring in the movie. And yeah, it’s a very funny, action-packed movie with a very compelling story that at the same time, it doesn’t bore you. It has a good story. It has good connection between the scenes and how the story moves along. And you have the action and the comedy and their romance – very well balanced.
What was it like watching Ben work both behind the camera and in front of the camera?
Jaime Camil: He looks crazy. Like a crazy person. It’s like when Gina Rodriguez directed Jane the Virgin. It’s the same. It’s crazy. I like to direct as well. I’ve never directed and acted at the same time. But it’s crazy. Like, I want to do this and this and this and this. “Okay, perfect.” And then they jump in the thing, like, “You’re schizophrenic.” Like, what is this? It’s good. Yeah, it’s fun to watch them in action.
Before we wrap up, we’ve got to completely switch gears here. I saw you at the opening for Super Nintendo World. So, I’m curious. How was it? Did you have fun?
Jaime Camil: I love Keegan-Michael Key, of course. We’re friends from Schmigadoon. And I love him so much. And of course, watching him there was incredible and Chris Pratt and all of the other guys but it was fun. I took my kids, and they’re big fans of Mario Kart and Super Mario World. I mean, I played Nintendo 64. It brought back a lot of good memories. I used to love that game. And it was super fun. I think that the ride is super interactive. The world is very interactive with your bracelet and how you can get points and hit the little question marks. It’s super fun. I loved it.
When I was on Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, I almost forgot to play the game because you’re looking at everything as you’re driving through.
Jaime Camil: We were very lucky to be at the VIP thing because you can go on the ride several times. My kids, of course, I want to go again, I want to go again. So, we went again and again and again. And by the third time, you really catch up on so many super cool things about the world that are so incredible.
