One way in which the film was set to do this was by introducing human-dinosaur hybrids. Concept art shows human-Triceratops, human-velociraptor, and human-Tyrannosaurus rex hybrids, all three of which look pretty terrifying. While this pitch was rejected by Amblin almost immediately, it was an incredibly exciting prospect, one that should return in the seventh Jurassic Park movie.
Dinosaur Hybrids Would Break Jurassic Park’s Story Cycle
Besides being cool, the biggest benefit of bringing back Jurassic Park IV‘s cut human-dinosaur hybrids is that it would break the franchise’s repetitive story cycle. Every Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movie has followed the exact same sequence of events. Some sort of company begins experimenting on dinosaurs, scientists are brought in, everything goes wrong when the dinosaurs break free, and the scientists have to escape. While this is executed perfectly in the original Jurassic Park, this common slasher story structure grew stale pretty quickly, meaning that the successor to Jurassic World: Dominion needs to fix this by bringing the cut human-dinosaur hybrids back.
Having human-dinosaur hybrids would introduce a new threat to the Jurassic Park franchise, as these monsters are probably much smarter and stronger than the franchise’s typical dinosaur antagonists. On top of that, the creation of these creatures would add a layer of mystery to Jurassic Park that isn’t present in other films, with the main characters having to investigate how and why these hybrids exist. The human-dinosaur hybrids would also mean that the main characters could potentially be turned into these grotesque monsters, adding another element of conflict to the Jurassic World: Dominion sequel.
Human-Dinosaur Hybrids Actually Align Perfectly With Jurassic Park’s Original Vision
Another benefit of bringing back the cut human-dinosaur hybrids is that it would make the next Jurassic Park movie align perfectly with the franchise’s original vision. In Michael Chricton’s original novel, the dinosaurs are far from normal dinosaurs. Instead, the animals are far creepier, with them being a mesh of various animal DNA that turns them into a more experimental form of the park’s final dinosaurs. While the Jurassic Park movie keeps this idea, the dinosaurs look fairly normal, with them missing the book’s creepy designs. However, the concept art for the human-dinosaur hybrids is much closer to the book’s original vision, meaning that it should come back.
Furthermore, bringing the human-dinsoaur hybrids back would also cause the next Jurassic Park movie to further lean into the franchise’s horror element. While the Jurassic World films are mostly action movies, the original Jurassic Park is a straight-up horror movie once the dinosaurs break free. With the franchise’s later entries missing this horror element, the Jurassic World: Dominion sequel needs to bring the series back to its roots. The human-dinosaur hybrids are far more terrifying than the franchise’s other dinosaurs, meaning that Jurassic Park‘s next entry would finally be closer to its original vision.
