Sam AltmanCEO of Open AI, has recently published in tweets in which he tries to suggest how Artificial Intelligences could improve the world. And among the various hypotheses he has advanced that of a scenario in which AI will be able to provide medical indications to those who are in such economic conditions that they cannot avail themselves of health care.

“Adaptation to a world deeply integrated with AI tools will likely happen quite quickly. The benefits (and the fun!) have too many benefits. These tools will help us be productive (I look forward to spending less time on email!), healthier (AI medical consultants for people who can’t afford treatment), smarter (students using ChatGPT to learn), and more fun (AI meme lolol)”
he wrote on Twitter.

That an instrument should not be demonized a priori tout-court no doubt and although AI could actually represent valid aids for daily productivity (we talked about it in this article: 24 hours with Microsoft Bing powered by ChatGPT artificial intelligence), perhaps it would be appropriate to show a little caution in suggesting their use in “sensitive” areas, such as for example everything concerning the health of the individual.

Clearly in the long term it is likely to assume that AIs, if they were to prove reliability and precision, could also be used as aids in the medical field, but Altman’s utterances are probably a bit premature, even in the face of the blunders that Chat GPTAnd Bing Chat have shown over the past few weeks.

Altman himself acknowledges, however, that as excited as one may be by the speed of any transition, it is also good to understand that society may need time to adjust to a change of this magnitude. The CEO of OpenAI underlines the importance of an awareness on the part of the institutions, of the need for regulation and of the commitment to solve some key challenges.

“Institutions will need enough time to figure out what to do and while current AI tools aren’t particularly scary, I think we may be not that far from potentially scary ones” Altman said.
