Alfa Romeo brought the most awaited version of the new Tonale to its debut, the one equipped with the Plug-in hybrid powertrain. The new Tonal Plug-In Hybrid Q4 it therefore completes the range of the new SUV of the Italian brand and can already be pre-ordered with deliveries in the first half of 2023. Prices start at 51,600 euros. At launch, the exclusive “Special Edition” will be available with some exclusive content. Let’s go into the details and see the main features of this model.
OVER 80 KM IN THE CITY
Some of the specifications of the Plug-in version had already been revealed during the presentation of the Alfa Romeo SUV. Aesthetically, the PHEV model does not change compared to the other versions of the Tonale except for some detail elements. However, due to the presence of the battery, the luggage compartment capacity drops to 385 litres.
Even the interiors do not change. So, we find the digital instrumentation with 12.3-inch screen and an infotainment system with a 10.25-inch display, Android platform, 4G connectivity and OTA updates. On this model, given the particular engine, there are also some specific functions such as, for example, the location of recharging points.
On the Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4, the driving modes of the DNA selector have been revised. Specifically, the “Dynamic” mode is designed to maximize the car’s performance, with a specific calibration of the accelerator pedal, gearbox management and stability controls combined with a more direct steering wheel response. The “Natural” mode sets the hybrid drive to all-wheel drive, maintaining the best performance optimization. Finally, the “Advance Efficiency” mode is calibrated to obtain maximum energy efficiency in electric driving.
Speaking of the powertrain, we find a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine (180 HP), coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which provides traction to the front wheels, with an electric motor capable of delivering a peak power of 90 kW and a torque of 250 Nm, at the rear. So, all-wheel drive is present. There are available altogether 280 hp. It takes 6.2 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, while the maximum speed is 206 km/h. In electric, the maximum speed is 135 km/h.
The electric motor is powered by a 15.5 kWh battery capable of allowing an electric range of over 80 km in the city cycle. The accumulator can be recharged in alternating current at a maximum power of 7.4 kW. It takes 2.5 hours for a full tank of energy.
Speaking of driver assistance systems, the Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 offers, among other things, the high-resolution camera with a 360-degree view around the car, the Blind-Spot Detector and the Rear Cross-Path Detector. Just like the other versions of the Tonale, the Plug-in too has NFT certification (Non-Fungible-Token) on Blockchain.
In detail, based on the customer’s selection, the NFT generates a certification that guarantees the identity and good maintenance of the car, consequently supporting its residual value. The NFT certification therefore represents a further source of credibility on the used market and becomes even more relevant on the Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4, as it contains even more information.
