As every year, Microsoft take advantage of the conference Ignite to announce many news dedicated to companies and the world of work. There are several news regarding Azure and the platforms connected to the cloud computing service of the US giant, but there are also innovations for services such as Power BI And Microsoft Defender.
Microsoft announces the latest news for Azure at Ignite 2022
Microsoft’s announcements start with those relating to partners: the company has announced that the Microsoft Intelligent Data Platformwhich unifies databases, data analysis and governance of the same, expands with a partner ecosystem which can add their own solutions to those provided by Microsoft. There are also news regarding Windows Serverwith the expansion of Azure Hybrid Benefit: Program now expands to Azure Kybernetes Service and Azure Stack HCI, which allows subscribers to run AKS on Windows Server and Azure Stack HCI at no additional cost and get Azure Stack HCI for free if they have Windows Server Datacenter SA.
Also Azure VMware Solution updates and now promises a uptime 99.99% with the failover virtual machines in the Availability Zone where there are no problems, without IT intervention. The functionality Customer Managed Keys allows companies to manage their own vSAN encryption keys, so as to ensure maximum data confidentiality.
Azure Deployment Environmentsavailable in preview, allows you to create test environments for developers in an easy way and based on already defined models, so as to have environments that respect the necessary security characteristics while maintaining control over costs.
The so-called “reserved virtual machines”or confidential virtual machinecan now also be used with Azure Kubernetes Service, thanks to the advanced security features of third generation AMD EPYC processors. Also in the case of Azure Virtual Desktop it is possible to create private virtual machines, so that the data remains encrypted even in memory and always remains protected.
Lastly, there are also news for Microsoft Cloud for Sustainabilitywithin which a dashboard is available to calculate the emissions related to the use of Microsoft products such as Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business, with the calculation of the differences compared to the use of same products in the cloud.
What’s new in Power BI, Microsoft Defender and Windows 365
Power BI, Microsoft’s business intelligence platform, will see numerous updates, starting with the fact that it will be installed automatically for business users of Office (in packages that include it, such as Microsoft 365 E5). It will then be possible view and edit Power BI reports directly from OneDrive and SharePoint, without the need to download the Power BI application. Microsoft Defender Cloud Security Posture Management helps organizations assess their security setup with proactive attack path analysis that helps identify the most vulnerable assets within their infrastructure. It also provides a set of ideal practices to follow to secure your business presence in the cloud, especially in multicloud environments. Microsoft Defender for Servers will also support agentless scanning in virtual machines on AWS and Azure.
Microsoft 365 Defender now acts automatically to stop ransomware attacks, gathering and relating various signals of an attack in progress from endpoints, emails, identities, documents and cloud applications. According to Microsoft, this novelty will prevent the spread of ransomware within the corporate network, preventing the so-called “lateral movement”.
Windows 365 continues to expand and Microsoft announces the availability of a specific version for the US government, along withWindows 365 application to access the service more easily from your computer ea Citrix HDX Plus for Windows 365 which allows IT teams using the Citrix tool to provide support to users using Windows 365 as well.
Finally, the expansion of Basic Test for Microsoft 365, a service that allows companies to check the compatibility of their software with new versions of Windows. Support is added when upgrading the operating system from Windows 10 to 11 while retaining applications and settings, and testing with monthly released versions of Microsoft 365 applications is also supported.
