The time has finally come for the Audi e-tron allow yourself the restyling. This model made its debut in 2018, ushering in the era of the German brand’s electric cars. Now, for this vehicle, also in the Sportback version (SUV Coupé) comes an update that introduces several new features. In addition to design refinements that also optimize aerodynamics, more efficient engines, new batteries and greater autonomy.

In addition, with the restyling, the electric SUV change name. As already speculated in the past, Audi e-tron becomes Audi Q8 e-tron. A precise choice to align this model with the increasingly wide range of electric of the German manufacturer. One way, therefore, to identify that this car is the top model of all the electric cars of the 4-ring house. The electric SUV will continue to be offered even in the most performing SQ8 e-tron and SQ8 Sportback e-tron versions.

The market launch of the new Audi Q8 e-tron and Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron, which can be ordered from mid-November, is scheduled for the end of February 2023 in Germany and in the most important European markets. In the United States, the model is expected to hit the market at the end of April 2023.

While we are writing, the prices for the Italian market have not yet been disclosed. However, in Germany the new electric SUV will start at 73,000 euros.

DESIGN AND INTERIORS


The SUV continues to always rest on the MLB Evo platform. The dimensions Audi Q8 e-tron’s are 4,915mm long x 1,937mm long x 1,633mm high (1,619mm in the Sportback), with a wheelbase of 2,928mm. The SQ8 e-tron and SQ8 Sportback e-tron are both two millimeters lower and 39 millimeters wider.

The trunk is 569 liters which drops to 528 liters for the Sportback version. There is also 62 liters in the front luggage compartment, the so-called “frunk”. The restyling brings some design innovations, especially to the front with the aim of refreshing the look of the electric SUV. We find, for example, some tweaks to the Singleframe, the bumper and the headlights. Optionally, the electric SUV can be equipped with digital Matrix LED headlights.

There are also new alloy wheels with aerodynamically optimized design. Audi worked very own on aerodynamics to make it more efficient with the aim of reducing consumption.

The result is a Cx that went from 0.28 to 0.27 for the Q8 e-tron and from 0.26 to 0.24 for the Q8 Sportback e-tron. Speaking of the interior, new upholstery arrives, while the panoramic roof allows you to give a feeling of greater space. As an alternative to the standard two-zone automatic climate control, Audi also offers four-zone automatic climate control.

There is also a lot of technology inside the cabin. Next to the Audi virtual cockpit 12.3-inch, the electric SUV can count on two additional displays in the center of the dashboard. The first 10.1-inch for the actual infotainment system (MMI platform) and the second, below, 8.6-inch from which a series of vehicle functions can be managed. In this way it was possible to eliminate most of the physical commands. Obviously, the occupants still have the possibility of being able to manage various functions of the car through the use of voice commands.

ENGINES AND SAFETY


Speaking of engines, the new electric SUV is proposed in versions Audi Q8 50 e-tron, Audi Q8 55 e-tron and Audi SQ8 e-tron. The SUV Coupé model, on the other hand, is offered in variants Audi Q8 50 Sportback e-tron, Audi Q8 55 Sportback e-tron and Audi SQ8 Sportback e-tron. Let’s go into the details.

For the Audi Q8 50 e-tron and Audi Q8 50 Sportback e-tron there is a powertrain with double electric motor of 250 kW peak with 664 Nm of torque. To feed the whole one 95 kWh battery (89 kWh usable) which in direct current can be recharged at a peak power of 150 kW. Autonomy up to 491 km and up to 505 km for the Sportback. Top speed limited to 200 km / h.

Instead, Audi Q8 55 e-tron and Audi Q8 55 Sportback e-tron can count on a powertrain always with double electric motor. but with 300 kW and 664 Nm of torque. There battery rises to 114 kWh (106 kWh usable). Accumulator that can supply energy in direct current up to a maximum power of 170 kW. Autonomy of 582 km and 600 km for the Sportback. Finally, we have the sportier Audi SQ8 e-tron and Audi SQ8 Sportback e-tron models. In this case, the powertrain is characterized by the presence of 3 electric motors (one at the front and two at the rear) for a total 370 kW and 973 Nm of torque. The battery is always the 114 kWh (106 kWh usable). Autonomy of 494 km and 513 km for the Sportback. Top speed of 210 km / h.

As for AC charging, Audi offers an 11 kW charger as standard. From 22 kW as an option.

Audi Q8 e-tron supports the Plug & Charge function. Therefore, from compatible columns, such as those of IONITY, just connect the cable to start the energy supply without using cards or apps. The new Audi Charging service, which will be launched in 2023 and will replace the current e-tron Charging Service in the future, will allow easy access to around 400,000 public charging points across Europe.

Speaking of safety, the new Audi Q8 e-tron can rely on 40 driver assistance systems. Up to 5 radars, 5 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors provide information which is then analyzed by the car’s central control unit. Among the novelties is the system remote park assist plus which will be available from 2023. Customers can check the parking procedure via the myAudi app on their smartphone. When the car reaches its final parking position, it switches off automatically, applies the parking brake and locks the doors. To exit the car park, the engine is started via the myAudi app. At that point, the car will carry out all the necessary maneuvers.


The new Audi Q8 e-tron is equipped with air suspension as standard, allowing the ground clearance to be varied by 76 mm depending on the driving scenario. In addition, recycled materials are also used to make the electric SUV, which reduce the amount of resources used.
