BYD continues to grow rapidly. The Chinese brand has recently celebrated the roll-off of its vehicle NEV (New Energy Vehicles – both 100% electric and Plug-in models) number 3 million. This is an important milestone for the automaker that is pushing hard on battery-powered vehicles.
Curiously, the model number 3 million that rolled off the production lines was a BYD Seal delivered to the hands of Wang Shuang, a female soccer player who was named Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Player of the Year in 2018.
Celebrating this important milestone, BYD let it be known that will give birth to Yangwang, a premium brand aimed at the luxury market. Its debut model will be launched in first quarter of 2023 and BYD points out that it will be able to offer “extraordinary performance”.
Unfortunately, the automaker declined to provide further details on the first model that will be offered under the premium brand “Yangwang” (indiscretions speak of an SUV). Since the debut is expected in the first quarter of 2023, it is possible that more information may arrive in the coming months.
BYD, however, does not want to stop there because it intends to launch yet another new brand. It will debut in 2023 and will focus on customization in order to meet the diversified demand of consumers. The brand will leverage co-creation with users. The name has not yet been revealed but the brief description suggests that it will work on creating custom models.
Currently, BYD has expanded its electric vehicle presence to over 400 cities, in 70 countries and regions on 6 continents. As we have seen recently, the Chinese brand has an ambitious expansion plan in Europe, currently bringing the HAN, TANG and ATTO 3 models. The new Seal will also arrive in 2023.
