The energy problem and increases in bills, as we know, are hot topics these days. Problems that also affect the activities of the car manufacturers who are organizing themselves to tackle them in the best possible way. During a videoconference on the sidelines of the Detroit Auto Show, Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantishas made it known that they are evaluating significant investments to produce energy directly within their factories.

We are now preparing a very strong energy usage reduction plan. We will make significant investments to produce our energy locally.

Apparently, a decision will already be made in the next few days. The automotive group is therefore defining a strategy in response to the threat of cutting natural gas supplies from Russia that could complicate their activities.

There are still no particular details on what Stellantis could do. However, Tavares added that the company’s European factories still have ample space to use to build new photovoltaic systems. Stellantis, therefore, will certainly focus on photovoltaics for this project but in the absence of precise information it is not clear whether the Group will also work on other sources of energy production.

For what concern energy saving planTavares pointed out that to make it happen it will take a cue from what was done in Japan by several companies after a tsunami in 2011 created long problems of electricity availability.

The number one of the Stellantis Group also wanted to clarify that, for the moment, their European activities have not been affected by gas supply interruptions even if tariffs have risen sharply.

It is another element of chaos“, underlined Tavares, which adds to the problems of the supply chain and the disruptions of the pandemic that the automaker has been facing for more than two years. And moving on to issues more related to the automotive world, the CEO of Stellantis reiterated that there will be no separation between activities related to electric cars and those of models with internal combustion engines.
