At CES 2023 there will be several automakers presenting a number of innovations as well as showing visitors the latest technologies they have developed. For example, at the Las Vegas fair there will also be Polestar which will show the operation of its driver monitoring system equipped with technology Smart Eye. System that has been integrated into its new Polestar 3 electric SUV.

The manufacturer’s goal is to demonstrate how this technology can improve driving safety. This solution is part of the broader package of driver assistance systems that the brand offers inside its electric SUV such as, for example, Driver Alert Control, Lane Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control and Pilot Assist. To manage all these systems a hardware platform that uses an NVIDIA processor.

How does Smart Eye technology work? Inside the cockpit they are there are two cameras infrared sensors which are used to monitor the movement of the eyelids and the movements of the driver’s head. If the system detects signs of distraction or tiredness, it will warn the driver through audible and visual alerts. The most interesting thing, however, is that if the system were to detect a state of malaise from the driver, it can intervene directly, stopping the car.

At CES, visitors will be able to see how the cameras inside Polestar 3 track the movements of the driver’s head and eyes and learn how the software can detect if a driver is distracted or tired. Thomas IngenlathCEO Polestar, commented:

This technology addresses some of the root causes of fatal crashes and can help save lives by refocusing the driver’s attention on the road. Furthermore, it can initiate preventive action when the driver does not or cannot intervene.

We remind you that the Polestar 3 is offered in Italy at a starting price of 94,900 euros in the version with 360 kW engine and range of up to 610 km.
