Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Hong Kong on Thursday to attend celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the city’s handover from Britain to China, an AFP journalist saw.
Xi travelled into the city by high-speed train, the first time he has left mainland China since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
