Dashcam footage has shown a dramatic motorway chase in which a driver armed with a loaded gun rams a police car and hits speeds of 135mph – before eventually being arrested.

Kane McLeod was jailed for a total of almost eight years after admitting several offences including possession of a firearm with intent to danger life, related to a high-speed chase in Kent in 2021, as well as separate driving offences committed in London three years earlier.

The case relates to an incident which occurred on the evening of April 10, 2021, when proactive patrols spotted a suspicious Audi A7 on the M25 close to the Darenth Interchange.

Officers followed the car onto the M20 coastbound, where the driver accelerated to speeds of 135mph before coming to a stop when requested.

However, a second patrol car boxed McLeod – at which point he rammed it back onto the live carriageway, and sped away again.

Following another high-speed pursuit, the Audi was brought to a stop at the top of the M20 Junction 5 slip road near Aylesford.

McLeod then left the vehicle and ran off with a black bag, into bushes surrounding the roundabout, at which point he was tasered and arrested.

Officers recovered the bag and seized a handgun. After searching the vehicle, they also found a small quantity of drugs.

McLeod, of Wordsworth Avenue, Derby, was also charged with possessing a firearm when prohibited for life, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and possession of cannabis. He pleaded guilty in August of last year, at Maidstone Crown Court.

On May 17, McLeod appeared before the same court where he was sentenced to five years and eleven months’ imprisonment.

He was also disqualified from driving for seven years and ten months, and will be required to do an extended test once that time elapses.

Matthew Kirk, prosecuting, said the rucksack contained a 9mm automatic pistol, loaded with six bullets.

McLeod would later claim he was taking the weapon “under direction” to someone in Canterbury.

Judge Julian Smith told him he would have known what the gun would be used for and had deliberately rammed police vehicles.

The 32-year-old was also sentenced to an additional two years and ten months for an incident in Harrow in north-east London in 2018 during which he rammed police cars trying to escape.

In that incident, during which he was driving a black Mini, he smashed into three cars and a moped and was also tasered before his arrest, at which point officers discovered a knife and drugs.

In total, McLeod was sentenced to seven years and nine months behind bars.
