The reboot series brings back fan-favorite icons in The Full Monty 2023 cast and also introduces some intriguing new characters. When it was released in 1997, The Full Monty became a surprise hit. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, grossed more than $247 million (via Box Office Mojo), and was acclaimed by critics, earning a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%. The Full Monty was noted for using its raunchy, humorous high-concept premise of a group of men putting on a striptease act to address serious social issues like unemployment, divorce, sexual identity, and mental health.
The Full Monty has continued to enjoy cultural relevance in the years since its release. It was ranked in the 25th spot on the BFI’s list of the top 100 British films of all time (via the BBC), so it made sense to revisit these beloved characters and tell a new story. The sequel series on FX on Hulu and Disney+ picks up 25 years later. Many cast members from the original film reprise their roles in The Full Monty reboot series, from Robert Carlyle to Lesley Sharp. Hugo Speer was meant to return as Guy (via The Star), but he was reportedly fired from the show for “inappropriate behavior.” There are some exciting new additions to The Full Monty cast, too, like Talitha Wing as Gaz’s estranged daughter Destiny.
Robert Carlyle As Gary “Gaz” Schofield
Robert Carlyle once again leads The Full Monty cast as Gary “Gaz” Schofield, a single father and former steelworker who originally formed the striptease act to make child support payments he couldn’t afford. Carlyle won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in the original film. The actor is best known for playing Francis “Franco” Begbie in Trainspotting and its sequel, Don in 28 Weeks Later, and great James Bond villain Victor “Renard” Zokas in The World is Not Enough. Carlyle also made a memorable cameo appearance as a 78-year-old John Lennon in Yesterday.
Mark Addy As Dave Horsefall
Gaz’s best friend Dave Horsefall, a fellow steelworker who was made redundant, is played by a returning Mark Addy. Addy was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in the original film. Addy is best known for playing Detective Constable Gary Boyle in the police sitcom The Thin Blue Line and the quotable King Robert Baratheon in the HBO medieval fantasy series Game of Thrones. He also played Fred Flintstone in The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, Bill Miller in the CBS sitcom Still Standing, Roland in A Knight’s Tale, and Friar Tuck in the 2010 Robin Hood movie.
Tom Wilkinson As Gerald Arthur Cooper
Tom Wilkinson reprises his role in The Full Monty cast as Gaz and Dave’s former foreman, Gerald Arthur Cooper, who taught them their dance moves. Wilkinson won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in the movie. He’s also been nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Actor for playing Matt Fowler in In the Bedroom and Best Supporting Actor for playing Arthur Edens in Michael Clayton. Wilkinson is also known for playing the villainous Carmine Falcone in Batman Begins, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and the older version of Jude Law’s “Author” character in The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Steve Huison As Lomper
Lomper, a security guard who worked at the steel mill with Gaz and Dave, is again played by Steve Huison, (reprising his role from the original movie). Huison is best known for his recurring role as Eddie Windass in the long-running soap opera Coronation Street. He also played Jim in the Ken Loach film The Navigators, another sobering drama about Sheffield’s working class, as well as porter Norman Dunstan in the daily ITV medical drama The Royal Today, spun off from the Sunday night series The Royal, and businessman Colin Wallace in the post-apocalyptic TV serial The Last Train.
Paul Barber As Barrington “Horse” Mitchell
Paul Barber’s character Barrington “Horse” Mitchell, a skilled dancer who aced the open audition to join the striptease troupe, reappears in The Full Monty series. Barber is best known for his role as Denzil Tulser in the classic British sitcom Only Fools and Horses. He also had a small role in the hit soap opera Coronation Street as club owner Nelson, an acquaintance of Vernon Tomlin. Barber has played Greg Salter in Brookside, Captain Jack Parrot in Death in Paradise, and Ernest Maxwell in two episodes of the medical drama series Casualty.
Lesley Sharp As Jean Horsefall
Lesley Sharp is back as Dave’s wife Jean Horsefall, whose loving support and encouragement helped him overcome his body image insecurities and stay in the group. Sharp is best known for her TV roles as DC Janet Scott in Scott & Bailey, Trudy Graham in Clocking Off, Alison Mundy in Afterlife, and Rose Cooper opposite Alan Davies as Bob Gossage in Bob & Rose. Her film roles include Michelle in Rita, Sue, and Bob Too, Kate Eddowes in From Hell, and Jessie Barnes in Vera Drake. She appeared alongside her future Full Monty co-stars Carlyle and Wilkinson when she played Mrs. Unsworth in 1994’s Priest.
Talitha Wing As Destiny
The most prominent new addition to The Full Monty cast is Talitha Wing, who is playing Gaz’s estranged teenage daughter Destiny (who he’s desperate to connect with). Wing is an up-and-coming young talent with some small roles under her belt. She played Flick in six episodes of Wolfe, Sasha in four episodes of Amazon’s TV adaptation of the Alex Rider books, and Diane in season 1, episode 5 of The Feed. She also played a P.A. at the Albert Hall in Military Wives, helmed by The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo. Playing Gaz’s daughter in The Full Monty series will likely boost Wing’s profile and lead to more acting work.
Wim Snape As Nathan Schofield
Most surprisingly, Wim Snape is returning to The Full Monty 2023 cast as Nathan Schofield, Gaz’s son. Not much is known about Nathan in the show, but based on the one press photo of him, he has become a police officer. Nathan obviously didn’t have a major role in the original movie’s narrative, and Snape was only 12 years old when he played the character. Usually, a reunion show or movie would simply replace a child actor with a more well-known actor, but Snape actually build an impressive acting resume when he grew up. The actor is best known for his role in the British comedy-drama series, The Beaker Girls.
The Full Monty New Characters & Returning Crew Members
Ben Crompton: Although not much is known about his character, Ben Crompton also joined The Full Monty series cast. He is best known for playing Jon Snow’s close friend, Eddison Tollett, in Game of Thrones and Shanker in Strike.
Aiden Cook As Twiglet: Aiden Cook plays the young schoolboy, Twiglet, who strikes up a friendship with Dave. He is another up-and-coming talent who is best known for playing Young Billy Dalby in the TV series All Creatures Great and Small.
Phillip Rhys Chaudary As Dilip Amagee: Playing Deputy headteacher Dilip Amagee is Phillip Rhys Chaudary. Like many of the Full Monty series cast members, he has been involved in several impressive projects, playing Jude Sawyer in Nip/Tuck and Reza Naiyeer in 24. He has also had minor roles in Doctor Who and Shameless.
Tupele Dorgu As Yaz: Coronation Street alum Tupele Dorgu plays Destiny’s mother, Yaz. Some may also recognize her for playing Nicole Jones in The Case and Julie in Billionaire Boy.
Arnold Oceng As Ant: As seen by the trailer, Oceng has also joined the Full Monty reboot cast as a talented graffiti artist who forms a close bond with Dave and Gary. Some may recognize him best for playing Charles in A United Kingdom, Henry Okocha in Brotherhood, and Mamere in The Good Lie
Jaxon Valentine As Sash: It’s hard to understand where Valentine’s Sash fits into the narrative given that her character doesn’t have a last name and isn’t in any of the promo materials. The actor has no acting credits except for the three episodes of The Full Monty 2023 in which she appears.
Jamie Michie As Little Bill: Little Bill will appear in two episodes with The Full Monty 2023 cast. Mitchell has seemingly only had extra roles in his acting career, but they’re in major movies and TV series, such as In the Heart of the Sea and Game of Thrones.
Keeley Fitzgerald As Casey: Casey will appear in two episodes of the upcoming series. While she isn’t well-known, Fitzgerald gets regular work playing recurring characters in British soap operas such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Natalie Davis As Tabani: Tabani will feature in one episode of The Full Monty 2023. Davis has appeared on British television many times, including playing Shelley in seven episodes of Coronation Street and Ashley in five episodes of Hullraisers.
Brandy Row As Mick: Mick only appears in one episode of the upcoming series, but he’ll be easily noticeable when he shows up. Row doesn’t have any acting credits outside a couple of amateur short films, but he has a distinct look, as he’s covered in face tattoos.
Thomas O’Toole As Carson: Carson also only appears in one episode. However, the young actor has ironically gotten more work than most of the other one-episode guests, as he was in 20 episodes of Class Dismissed and hosted 17 episodes of SKY News for Kids.
Amer Nazir As Sajid Khan: Sajid appears in one episode of The Fully Monty 2023. Nazir most famously played Twiggy, a police officer in the beloved British police drama series Happy Valley.
Writer Simon Beaufoy: The original screenwriter of The Full Monty, Simon Beaufoy, returned to work on the sequel series. His script for The Full Monty earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Beaufoy later won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for writing Slumdog Millionaire. He also worked on the screenplays for 127 Hours, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Battle of the Sexes, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Before writing the TV series, Beaufoy wrote a stage play adaptation of The Full Monty that opened at the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield before moving to the West End.
Producer Uberto Pasolini: Producer Uberto Pasolini is back on board for The Full Monty TV series. Pasolini earned a BAFTA Film Award for Best Film and an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture for producing The Full Monty. He also produced Palookaville, The Emperor’s New Clothes, and Bel Ami starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, and Christina Ricci. Pasolini made his directorial debut with Machan in 2008 and later directed Still Life in 2013.
Writer Alice Nutter: Beaufoy didn’t write The Full Monty series alone; he collaborated with fellow writer Alice Nutter. Nutter previously worked with Beaufoy on the FX series Trust, about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, and the unproduced series Undercovers. She also wrote episodes of the TV shows The Street, Casualty, Moving On, Accused, and The Mill. As a musician, Nutter is best known for her work with the anarcho-punk band Chumbawamba.
