Finally, the tablet-friendly Drive apps!

Google proved to be pretty strong this year on optimizing their apps on devices with large displaysfor example i Tablet. After the launch of Android 12L, which marked a turning point in terms of functionality on this type of device, the Mountain View giant announced that many apps will be even more optimized. These include those of the suite Google Workspace, i.e. Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Keep. In fact, through a post on its official blog, the company has specified all the new features coming.

Here is the option to drag and drop files

First, the developers are focusing on improving the use of the multitasking. Specifically, when the user activates the split screen mode, it will be possible to easily drag text or images from an application such as Chrome or Sheets into a document or a spreadsheet. It will also be possible to drag a photo from Google Photos directly into Google Drive. Finally, there will also be the option that will allow you to drag the image saved in Keep (the notes app) to an e-mail in Gmail.

Google Drive can be opened in two windows

Other news will affect Google Drive. For example, users will be able to get more information about files on the cloud. To do this it will be possible to open two side-by-side windows of the app: in this way it will be easy to press on the three-dot menu of any file and select the option “Open in a new window”. Thanks to this functionality, the need to always go back when looking for a specific file will be overcome.

New keyboard shortcuts available

Finally, all the applications of the Google Workspace suite will receive keyboard shortcuts such as select, cut, copy, paste, undo and redo. In this way, it will be more immediate to navigate in Drive, Documents and Presentations, without having to slow down and without taking your hands off the keyboard.

The Google post concludes by announcing that “These updates will roll out over the next few weeks to all Android devices with large screens with Google Workspace and also with personal Google Accounts. And stay tuned for more updates as we continue to add new features for Google apps on larger screens.” .
