After several months of developer previews, it has been officially confirmed that Privacy Sandbox – the software developed by Google with the purpose of introduce new advertising solutions with a keen eye on privacy – will launch in beta on Android 13. The launch will take place early next year and, at least initially, it will involve few devices.
The goal, in fact, will be to collect further feedback. Furthermore, as highlighted by the developers, “To use the beta, developers will need to build their solutions with an API level 33 Extension SDK update that will be available soon.” By the way, starting with this beta version, developers will need to complete a registration process in order to use the ad related APIs. This process will require developers to verify their identity and will collect developer-specific data, which is needed by the APIs.
Meanwhile, Google, in addition to continuing to collaborate with important partners in this area, made some recommendations aimed at advertisers and publishers: “We’ve heard many advertisers and publishers talk about the role they can play in testing these new technologies. For companies that rely on third-party solutions for ad serving or measurement, we recommend working with vendors to understand their roadmaps of tests and how to participate in the first tests of Privacy Sandbox”.
