AHMEDABAD: In its annual budget for 2023-24, the state government has provided Rs 50 crore for giving Rs 20,000 to students who are admitted under the Right to Education Act 2009 (RTE). The state education department will conduct a competitive exam for Class 8 students and give Rs 20,000 voucher to highest scorers so that they can pursue further education in a private school. Every year, the state government will select 25,000 students for this scholarship.
The state financial budget which has provided Rs 38,867 crore for primary, secondary and higher secondary education this year will also upgrade 20,000 schools with high-tech equipment and infrastructure under the Mission of Excellence project. Under this project, the state government will add 50,000 new classrooms, 1.5 lakh smart classrooms, 20,000 computer labs, 5,000 Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths labs (STEM) and vocational labs. The state government will spend Rs 3,109 crore for this.
The state government will also set up 50 Gyanshakti Residential Schools in the state for bright students studying in government schools and 10 Raksha Shakti residential schools for Class 6-12 students studying in government schools.
64k schools to have Shala Sahayaks
The state government will implement a new scheme of Shala Sahayak in 64,000 schools across the state in which the education department will recruit school assistants to operate labs and assist teachers and management in running schools. These assistants can also teach if required. The government will spend Rs 87 crore on this.
Khel Sahayaks in 5k schools
Keeping in mind the 2036 Olympic Games, the state government will recruit Khel Sahayaks or assistant sports teachers in 5,000 schools that have a strength of 300 students or more. The state government has provided Rs 66 crore for this.
Health cards for teachers
The state government has provided Rs 109 crore in the annual budget to maintain 32,710 government schools. Apart from that the state government has also announced that the teachers will be issued health cards and will also implement a new visiting teachers scheme. The government will spend Rs 531 crore for this.
