We recently wrote about several photographic exhibitions of more or less well-known artists who are taking place or will take place in the next period (they can be found in the Photographic Culture section of our site). A moment to experience photography in a different way throughout Italy and to bring even those who may have never been interested in this passion in the past. Among the latest announcements is the arrival of the photo shows HELMUT NEWTON. LEGACY which will open the March 24, 2023 in the halls of Palazzo Reale in Milan.

Obviously the photographer needs no introduction for many considering his influence not only in photography but also in world popular culture. This Photo exhibition it was intended to be a large retrospective on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth. The event should have been held in 2020 (Newton was born in 1920 in Berlin with the name of Helmut Neustädter) but the pandemic forced plans to change. Here is the main information.
HELMUT NEWTON. LEGACY: the photographic exhibition arrives in Milan
Royal Palace is confirmed as one of the realities for the promotion of art (not only photography) of Milan. In such a particular and easy to reach context, the retrospective HELMUT NEWTON. The exhibition was conceived by Matthias Harder (director of the foundation dedicated to the photographer) and Denis Curti and is promoted by the Municipality of Milan and sees the collaboration with the Helmut Newton Foundation. Visitors will be able to “to get lost” among as many as 250 photographs, magazines, documents of various kinds and videos that trace the career of the well-known photographer in chronological order (with material to contextualize his achievements).
Obviously there will be the most iconic shots (which are always a pleasure to see again) but there will also be the opportunity to see unpublished photographs that are present for the first time in Italy so as to give new material to enthusiasts. In one of city symbol of fashionthere will be a whole series of images dedicated to the fashion services which were made in a decidedly unconventional and ingenious way by Newton.
Thanks to the presence of Polaroid e “tests” it will be possible to immerse yourself in the creative process which then led to selecting the best shot among the many captured so as to impress the observer. A process often hidden and forgotten but obviously fundamental.
