We know well that for some generations now it has not been necessary to spend a thousand euros and more to take noteworthy photographs with a smartphone, even if in fact we must admit it in terms of versatility the top of the range are still unattainable today. All without running into effects of blur or background noise, which are typically the main enemies of night shots.
This is possible thanks to the use of HONOR Image Engine, which uses computational photography techniques to analyze scenes and offer shots that are always full of detail and free of unsightly artifacts, even at night. Furthermore, on HONOR 70 the main module can put a fire automatically exploiting every single pixel of the sensor, which is a true top-of-the-range feature, and also recording Ultra HD videos with digital stabilization that always behaves extremely reliably.
The main one is not the only module present on the smartphone: HONOR 70 implements two further cameras at the rear. Among these we find one 50 Megapixel ultra wide angle camera with autofocus support and a huge 122 field of view. This allows you to greatly expand the frame compared to the main camera, while maintaining a lot of detail thanks to the sensor implemented which is significantly more defined than that present in many other ultra wide-angle modules of the competition. The rendering of the shots is then consistent with those of the main camera: in other words, in our gallery of images the photos present are all comparable in terms of colors and details, and do not seem to have been taken with different devices as sometimes happens on other smartphones even more expensive than this HONOR 70. The third module at the rear instead designed for close-up shots: do you think by setting the mode Super Macro of HONOR 70 you can focus already from two and a half centimeters, still obtaining extremely sharp and well balanced shots from the chromatic point of view.
Then there is the front camera, which on a smartphone designed for a fresh and youthful audience like HONOR 70 certainly not an element of secondary importance. In fact, one has been implemented on this smartphone 32 Megapixel selfie camera paired with an f / 2.4 lens: in short, lots of pixels available for our portraits and a lens that’s not too open to emphasize not only the subject, but also the background.
Speaking only of technique on HONOR 70, however, is a bit reductive, also because the integrated hardware components are supported by an important software sector and by exclusive features that are very interesting for creators or aspiring creators. Yes, in fact there are really a lot of functionality, as per the HONOR tradition after all. Among these, some are specifically designed for the front camera, such as the beauty effects or HDR modepresent the latter not only with the rear modules but also for selfies.
Thanks to the HDR mode we can practically forget about selfies with completely burnt backgrounds, since HONOR 70’s camera can individually balance subject and background lighting to provide a balanced exposure image for each element in the shot. Among the most used features there is also the Portrait mode, also available for both the main rear and front cameras. In this case the smartphone can detect the distance of the individual pixels of the photo and crop all the subjects in the foreground, to offer a soft bokeh effect on everything related to the background.
In terms of functionality, it is worth mentioning the two goodies that HONOR has introduced on its evolved midrange, including Only Cut. Solo Cut can be activated through the Video recording interface and allows you to prepare videos using the integrated automatic tracking features of HONOR 70. By selecting a subject, in fact, the system allows you to follow their movements so that they always remain in focus and in the center of the frame. A peculiar feature of this function is that thanks to the Intelligent Memory function the subject is remembered even if it disappears from the scene. When it reappears in the shot, in fact, the frame immediately returns to the subject and continues to follow it.
With the Solo Cut mode you can also record two videos at the same time in as many different formats: one called Full View which resumes the recording in its entirety, the other called View only, which instead frames only a part of the recovery. Both videos are shot in Full HD and support beauty effect and electronic stabilization, thus making the most of the processing capabilities of the smartphone.
Through the Dual-Video Streaming modethen, the user can choose to record using two completely different points of view. With the front / rear and rear / rear modes the screen is divided in half and in each panel we will see a shot of a specific module, between the main rear together with the front one, or the two rear modules between the main and the ultra wide angle . With the picture-in-picture mode instead, front camera recording is used within a small frame that can be moved around in the shot. These are modes that are designed for creators, and the main feature is that all videos can be shared immediately on social media, without having to perform processing with third-party or native software.
HONOR 70 is undoubtedly one of the most concrete smartphones to consider in its price range. Yes, there are models with superior cameras but they often cost more, and there are also smartphones that cost less which instead exceed it in other areas (such as pure performance). In terms of the general user experience, however, it is not easy to find such a concrete and reliable device around 500, especially at launch taking into consideration the different commercial proposals of the company.
