How to Obtain All Seasonal Forms of Sawsbuck

Sawsbuck’s form changes on its own in Scarlet & Violet, making it easier than ever before to obtain all four seasonal forms of the Gen 5 monster.

When traveling with a Sawsbuck partner in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the Season Pokémon’s form will miraculously change to match its current environment’s conditions. With modifications made to the time cycle in the 2022 releases, trainers will notice seasonal transitions and a vast range of weather conditions present throughout the Paldea region. In light of these in-game environmental changes, it’s now easier than ever for players to obtain all four of the Generation 5 monster’s seasonal forms.

Players can catch and evolve Deerling in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet as a way to obtain each of Sawsbuck’s seasonal forms, but this method is now a thing of the past. Deerling and Sawsbuck were first introduced in Pokémon Black & White, in addition to a time mechanic that changed the in-game season according to the month.

Despite this, neither Deerling nor Sawsbuck could change form after they were caught, forcing trainers to catch at least four different Pokémon to obtain their seasonal forms. How to Obtain Sawsbuck (Spring Form)

In the South Province of Paldea, the state of the environment prompts Sawsbuck to take on its Spring form. Players can also find and catch Houndour in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet‘s South Province. Regardless of location or weather conditions within specific areas, Sawsbuck will remain in its Spring form while journeying. However, the change in the Pokémon’s seasonal appearance will only occur if players save, close the game and reload their save file while they are in an area of the South Province or surrounding cities and towns, like Los Platos, the location where trainers begin their adventure in the Paldea region.

How to Obtain Sawsbuck (Summer Form)

Deerling is one of the catchable Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet’s East Province, where it can be found in its Summer form. This is an easy way to ascertain that Sawsbuck will also take on its Summer form in this location as well as in nearby cities like Artazon. In general, players can use any wild Deerling’s seasonal form as a rule of thumb when debating which forms their own Pokémon will take on in a given environment. They will simply need to keep a watchful eye out for any wild Deerling they may find while journeying throughout the Paldea region.

How to Obtain Sawsbuck (Autumn Form)

Sawsbuck will transition into its Autumn form in several locations across Paldea, the most accessible being Medali and the surrounding areas. Here, wild Sawsbuck and Deerling can also be found in their Autumn form, giving players a shot at catching both Pokémon. The pair also appears in the dense woods of Socarrat Trail, where players can additionally catch Heracross in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. This autumnal area can be reached by crossing Casseroya Lake on either Koraidon or Miraidon or by descending the steep and winding slopes of Glaseado Mountain.

How to Obtain Sawsbuck (Winter Form)

Sawsbuck can easily be found in its winter form on the slopes of Glaseado Mountain, where it can almost always be seen braving a snowstorm in the company of four or five Deerling. However, while traversing the vast expanse of icy terrain, Sawsbuck will undergo a change into its Winter form. Saving in any snowy area of Paldea will trigger this change in the Season Pokémon’s appearance, adding its corresponding entry to the regional Pokédex. In addition to several other monsters that can only be found in these harsh weather conditions, players can also catch Cryogonal in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, a necessary feat on their quest to catch them all.
