In the last few hours IDCa well-known company that deals with statistics and market reports in the tech sector, has published an interesting one analyses which has as its protagonists folding smartphones.
IDC’s analysis tells us that leaflets currently constitute one small part of the market, and this is by no means a novelty or a surprise. In fact, currently only the1.1% of the smartphones sold in the world are foldable. Shipments for 2022 amount to approx 13.5 millionwhile those of smartphones are well 1.351 million approximately.
Will things change in the future? Don’t count on it. According to IDC numbers and projections in 2026 the leaflet segment will cover only the 2.8% of the global market. It is estimated that shipments will arrive at approx 41 millionwhile those of smartphones will be around 1,417 million.
But pay attention to the numbers and the proportions. It is true that a meager 3% of the total may appear disappointing, but we must also consider the growth forecasts compared to current numbers. From now to 2026, the shipments of the leaflets should almost triplewith an annual growth that would be around 38%. The annual growth for the smartphone segment should instead be around the1%.
This means the folding they will grow at a much faster rate compared to classic smartphones, for which the market is now stable and saturated. Of course, we cannot expect a boom in the next 4 years, given that however i prices will remain high compared to classic smartphones.
