Charles and Camilla have been married for 18 years, having tied the knot in a civil ceremony at the Windsor Guildhall on April 9 2005, followed by a marriage blessing at St George’s Chapel.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond gave an insight into how their relationship has been so successful and the secret to their closeness is how much they can laugh together.

She told OK! Magazine: “One of the greatest gifts in a long relationship is humour and it is something that Charles and Camilla have shared from the start.

“She understood his love of the comedy show The Goons and completely understood his wacky, quiet, school boyish sense of humour.

“Diana was a giggler too… but in the end she tended to giggle AT Charles, rather than with him.”

Ms Bond added that the King and Queen love “nothing more than a belly laugh together”.

The royal expert also explained how one of Camilla’s greatest skills is her ability to be able to calm Charles down and speaking to him when is “in one of his moods”.

She continued: “I think it’s always one of her great strengths. She just knows how to deal with him.

“When he is in one of his moods, her approach is very much to just stand back, let him explode and then just carry on smoothly.

“Camilla is terribly good at pouring oil on troubled water. She is probably the one person who would dare to – and can – talk to him when he’s feeling cross, and he’s unlikely to shout back at her.”

She may now have been crowned Queen Consort alongside her husband but it took time for Camilla to be accepted by the Firm and the public due to her relationship with Charles while he was still married to Princess Diana.

TV star Ryan-Mark Parsons explained how it had been difficult for Camilla but that she has always stayed true to Charles and her love for him.

He told Express.co.uk: “It’s also a hard time for Camilla. She’s been very loyal to Charles. She is Queen Consort now and she’s been a working royal for decades.

“She’s actually been around, by King Charles’s side for two decades. I think it’s a wonderful thing.

“She doesn’t complain. She doesn’t explain. That’s the mantra that every working member of the Royal Family needs to uphold.”
