Namor likes to come off as a hero for all, but when pushed to his limits, he will always prove himself to be a pompous royal determined to rule all.

The miniseries Namor the Sub-Mariner: Conquered Shores depicts a post-apocalyptic future where the Kree attack the Earth on a catastrophic level. They release a toxin that causes widespread environmental disaster. In a retaliation, many of Earth’s heroes leave the planet in order to battle the Kree in space, but this does not end well for them. Only a few heroes are left on the surface to try and rally the survivors. This is in contrast to Namor’s society under the ocean, Atlantis, which largely remains untouched and is in fact flourishing.
Namor Thinks He Rules Everyone
In Namor the Sub-Mariner: Conquered Shores #4 by Christopher Cantwell and Pasqual Ferry, Namor, along with Luke Cage and Frankenstein’s Monster, encounter the original Human Torch, Jim Hammond. They believe that Hammond is responsible for planning an attack on the survivor camps. This is a charge that Hammond denies, claiming that he and the fellow machines have set up their own civilization and only want to live in peace. However, Machine Man blows himself up at an underwater human colony, killing Captain America and many survivors. Infuriated by the apparent betrayal, Namor attacks the Human Torch and kills him by impaling him with his trident.
The fact that Namor lashes out with such rage that he is able to kill Hammond without thinking twice about it is telling. A true hero would never do something like that. However, what’s even more revealing is what Namor says during this interaction. He proclaims that the “entire world is [his] affair” and that “Atlantis rules all.” He even makes a point to tell Hammond that the “all” includes him and his android kind. When Hammond says that he and the other androids will not “bend the knee” to Atlantis, Namor calls it an “insurrection.” As he throws his trident at the Human Torch, he proclaims, “And the punishment for insurrection…is death!” In his rage, Namor gives away his true feelings that nobody is beyond his judgment.
Namor is Judge, Jury and Executioner
An ongoing debate during this series is Namor’s altruism for helping out the surface. He insists that he is merely doing it because he feels a kinship with the surface world. Despite all of their differences in the past, Namor has said that he feels for the hardships the surface has had to endure after the Kree attack. However, this scene shows a different side to Namor. He might want to believe he’s helping out of the kindness of his heart, but in truth, he believes the surface to merely be part of his domain. Jim Hammond simply wants to live in peace along with his other machine brethren, but Namor doesn’t even want to allow that, indicating he was never the hero he proclaimed to be.
