A few months ago, the smartphone market was “shaken” by Nothing Phone (1) – here is our review: the device is produced by Nothing, a company founded by Carl Peiformerly former executive of OnePlus, e the company has focused heavily on marketingcreating a huge hype around the smartphone (the latter was then sold with an invitation system).

Nothing Phone (1) features a very special design: lo “style” and the shape of the device undoubtedly resembles an iPhone, but the rear body mounts LEDs of different sizes which can be customized to signal notifications when the smartphone is face down. The software is also customized with original icons and ringtones.
Unfortunately Nothing Phone (1) was released with Android 12: the company immediately updated the smartphone, releasing security updates and correcting more or less serious bugs, but not even a shadow of Android 13. Last August, to questions from some users who asked precisely when the new version of the operating system would be released, Carl Pei replied “a smartphone is much more than its specifications, features and software version numbers“.
Fortunately though it is Carl Pei himself who provides more details on the timing of the release of Android 13: in a recent tweet published by the founder of the company, we read that The closed beta of Nothing OS Android 13 will be available from todaywhile open beta will be in two weeks.
We do not know how users were chosen to participate in the closed beta, but in any case just wait a couple of weeks before actually trying the software. Unfortunately we do not know when the stable version of the operating system is expected to be released: rumors of the past few weeks spoke of a release only in 2023.
If you are really eager to try Android 13 on your Nothing Phone (1) and you are quite familiar with modding, you can take a look at the Paranoid Android: the version Topaz of the ROM it is based on Android 13 and is compatible with Nothing’s smartphone (even if it’s only alpha builds).
Here all the details.
