NEW DELHI: BJP on Friday intensified its attack on the former Vice-President Hamid Ansari and UPA government over frequent visas between 2005-10 to Pakistani journalist Nursrat Mirza, who recently said that he had shared with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI the information he gathered during his visits to India.
“It had not been even one year of the 26/11 attacks and an ISI agent was invited to teach India how the country should tackle the menace of terrorism. That ISI agent shared the dais with the then vice-president of the country and a Union minister,” BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said.
Bhatia released photographs of the former VP with Mirza at a seminar on terrorism organised on October 27, 2009 in New Delhi by Jama Masjid United Forum.
Ansari, who had on Wednesday rejected BJP’s charge as a litany of lies, again referred to his assertion that Mirza’s trip was cleared by the government and not him.
In another twist, president of the International Council of Jurists and chairman of the All India Bar Association, Adish Aggarwala, claimed the VP’s office had insisted on inviting Mirza to a seminar organised by him.
He said the VP office had expressed “strong displeasure” when he did not accede to the suggestion and Ansari curtailed his presence at the seminar where he had been invited as chief guest.
