PENTAX KF: a new compact APS-C DSLR for those who do not want to give in to mirrorless

Earlier this month we wrote about the new HD PENTAX-D FA MACRO 100mm F2.8ED AW lens presented by Ricoh. Now the Japanese company is back with a new product but this time it is a camera and, to differentiate itself from the competition, a APS-C DSLR. A little glimmer of hope for those who still don’t want to switch to the world of mirrorless cameras by focusing on one instead reflex that has not belonged to the portfolio of some other manufacturer for some time (although several models are still very interesting). So here’s the new one PENTAX KF (very close relative of the K-70).

Ricoh he wanted to underline how this model is designed to be compact, resistant to dust and atmospheric agents and therefore ready for photography outdoor. In short, for some photography enthusiasts it could actually be an additional camera body for their own collection and for “give trust” to this kind of commercial experiment.

PENTAX KF: the technical characteristics

As reported in the press release from Ricohthe new PENTAX KF “It is an extension of our PENTAX K-70, sharing many of the same proven features and performance even in extreme outdoor conditions.” It must therefore be considered that although it is a new model, it actually arises from the foundations of another solution so as to reduce research and development costs as well as production costs. As mentioned, however, new ones DSLR hardly any will be presented and therefore this move by the company is not strange.

What therefore hides the body of the PENTAX KF?

The sensor CMOS is in APS-C with resolution of 24.24 MPixel actual. There is no lack of image stabilization in the camera body (up to 4.5 stops of compensation) as well as a sensitivity ranging from 100 ISO up to 102400 ISO. To focus, we use theHybrid AF. The bayonet is KAF2 compatible with KAF4, KAF3, KAF2, KAF and KA optics. Could not miss an optical viewfinder with pentaprism that covers almost 100% of the field of view. In the rear area there is instead a new 3 “articulated LCD screen with 1.037 million dots, also offering a mode for easier viewing in low light conditions.

Ricoh has also chosen to include some custom modes (altogether there are 14) for capturing photographs such as MIYABI, SATOBI, Bleach Bypass, Reversal Film, Cross Processing, Kyushu and Katen. The machine body, on the other hand, has remained similar to the K-70 and allows you to operate down to -10 ° C also thanks to the hundred gaskets scattered throughout the chassis. The rear buttons are then shaped to allow use with gloves. The overall dimensions are equal to 125.5 x 93 x 74 mm with a weight of 625 grams. The new PENTAX KF it is available in black or in black / blue and black / white combinations with the latter two being limited to 700 units. The price settles on 949 euros approximately.
