The sparks (and hallucinogenic spores) fly as Ivy, Harley, and their fans celebrate their love story, proving them to be the best couple in DC Comics.
While the two have been apart exploring their conflicting goals, Ivy was writing to Harley along the way, and those love letters pay off in the form of an in-person reunion for the couple in Poison Ivy #9 by G. Willow Wilson, Marcio Takara, Arif Prianto, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. Harley has crossed the country to visit Ivy in Seattle, where Pam has been living with a new roommate. The issue follows the couple’s short time together: they spend time in bed and Harley asks to try a small bit of Ivy’s hallucinogenic fungal spores so Harley can see the world as Pam does. Though the issue ends with Harley once again returning to Gotham, she doesn’t leave without Poison Ivy first defending her girlfriend to her roommate: “Harley is the woman I love. If you want to stay here, you have to get used to it.“

Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn have been a fan-favorite couple for decades, but only in the last few years has their in-continuity love story truly blossomed, making them DC’s most prominent queer relationship. However, Harley and Pamela Isley have actually been separated for the last few years in DC’s main continuity. First Ivy’s spirit was quite literally split and put back together during the Batman event Fear State, though Harley of course hunted down her love and helped save her. After that brief reunion, the pair parted ways again, with Harley focusing on her own redemption in her solo series Harley Quinn and Pam taking off on a life-changing road trip in Poison Ivy, which has seen her embrace humanity and destroy her former abuser.
Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy Are Together, Even When They’re Not
This issue shows once and for all why Ivy and Harley are DC’s best couple, and why they’ll stand the test of time and comic book melodrama. Simply put, these two women understand each other; they’ve seen the darkest parts of the other person, and still they return, again and again. When Harley and Ivy parted due to Harley’s desire to pursue heroics, their break-up was incredibly controversial, but this issue shows that their bond goes far deeper than their immediate romance. Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are often separated, but that they choose to reunite every time is what makes them not just DC’s most iconic queer couple, but the publisher’s most iconic couple across the entire line.
