CHANDIGARH: There were no large crowds or the usual pomp and show of a typical big fat Punjabi wedding, yet the exuberance was evident as Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann tied the knot with Gurpreet Kaur in the presence of select invitees, including AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and party’s Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha at the CM residence in Chandigarh on Thursday.
Mann (48) was dressed in a yellow turban with ‘kalgi’ and a gold-coloured kurta-pyjama while Kaur (30) chose a red-coloured dress for the Anand Karaj ceremony that was kept a private affair.
Before the ceremony, the bride-to-be posted a picture from her unverified Twitter account with the caption, “Din Shagna Da Chadya … (the auspicious day has arrived).” She also thanked various AAP leaders, who tweeted congratulatory messages, and by evening #GurpreetKaur and #BhagwantMannWedding were trending on Twitter.
Chadha was among the first to reach the CM’s residence with his mother in the morning. Kejriwal arrived with his family to attend the wedding.
The bride, Gurpreet Kaur, hails from Pehowa in Haryana’s Kurukshetra and completed her MBBS four years ago.
