There has been an interesting patent transfer over the past few days, according to a report by TheElec. According to the newspaper, Samsung has assigned 98 U.S. patents to Huaweireaching a total of 179 patents assigned to the Chinese company from 2019 to today.

This appears to be the latest step in an agreement aimed at resolving a dispute over Samsung’s use of certain Huawei patents – it was also discussed in 2021 -, which was only put down following the decision to share part of the South Korean company’s patent portfolio.

The move that took place in recent days should have renewed the agreement in question and it seems that it does not only concern US patents, but also the direct equivalent filed in South Korea. Following the ban received from the US, Huawei has intensified its activities precisely in the field of patents, going to request payments of higher amounts for those in his possession, as well as aiming to further expand his portfolio.

The patents involved also seem to concern the 5G sectorone of Huawei’s key fields, and at the moment it is not clear what the US government’s reactions to this move are, since the Chinese company has come into possession of new IPs deposited right in its territory.
