The folding smartphones they are definitely more fragile than those “standard”: the plastic display is in fact more prone to scratches, and the fact that there is a hinge makes the body less solid. The youtuber JerryRigEverything put the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 to the test in one of its usual endurance tests, and it smartphone did not come out as a winner.

As always, we start from the display test: the small external screen is protected by a glassand therefore presents the first signs at level 6 and 7 of the Mohs scale (values in line with other smartphones with glass displays), while the internal screen shows the first scratches already at level 2 and 3. This means that too a simple fingernail could irretrievably scratch the folding screen (but this has been known since the first generations of folding smartphones).
The edges of the device are made of aluminum: passing a blade over them you can see how the paint is leaving a glimpse of the color of the metal. All around the internal display there is instead a plastic bumper which protects the screen from any scratches or bumps. The outside of the hinge is still made of aluminum.
At this point, Zach spreads dirt and small stones inside the smartphone and beyond “closes the screen”: Z Flip 4 keeps opening and closing smoothly, and there are no weird noises coming from the hinge, a sign that the smartphone is able to resist dust in an excellent way.
Finally, the folding test: applying a lot of force to the edges of the smartphone, this yes “reverse fold” and the screen does “breaks” in a small spot (the video below clarifies everything). Thereafter, the device continues to work without problems, but since its predecessor managed to survive the same test entirely, something more was certainly expected from this Z Fold 4.
