Usually, five years after their debut, Android smartphones they no longer receive any updates, not even those related to safety. However, in sporadic cases, there are some exceptions, such as happened at Samsung with the “old” Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8. Both devices, in fact, surprisingly, have received an update aimed at overcoming a problem with the GPS.
In detail, the Korean company for the S7 has distributed an update of the 31 MB firmware – version G93 * FXXU8EVG3 – which should allow the mobile phone to no longer have critical issues with the GPS (as already mentioned above, the update does not contain any new security patch). For the S8, however, the update – version G95 * FXXUCDVG4 – has a very different overall weight: about 420 MB. In any case, however, no striking news: even in this case, in fact, the patches have remained fixed to those of the April 1, 2021.
A similar update, that is always concerning the stability of the GPS, soon it could also be released for the Galaxy S9 and for even more “older” devices, such as the 2015 S6 and J7. In short, it would seem that Samsung does not want to forget about devices that, although they are not more recent, are still used by various users.
Moreover, in recent years, the Korean company has earned an excellent reputation when it comes to updates. In fact, the brand offers up to four years of operating system updates and even five for security patches. In short, from this point of view, Samsung users can rest assured: their devices should enjoy the latest updates available in the Android universe for a long time.
