Steam Deck 2 will be done: the confirmation comes from Valve itself, but there is no actual announcement. The company recently produced and distributed a first-generation Steam Deck advertising booklet for Asian markets such as Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong, ahead of the upcoming launch; among the various pages of information and details, it was easy to notice the following sentence:

In the future, Valve will follow up on this product with hardware and software improvements and renewals, bringing new versions of the Steam Deck to market.

Impossible to misunderstand, therefore, even if understandably there are no precise details on what to expect – after all, the first generation is still very young, it is safe to assume that it will take a while before its replacement.

Steam Deck is the most concrete and credible attempt so far to compete directly with portable consoles, such as Nintendo Switch, in the PC world. Even if very compact, in fact, the device is a real computer, so much so that it supports the installation of Windows 11 (even if its native operating system is SteamOS, based on Linux). Just in the last few days, Valve has announced among other things a shortening of the waiting times for the units booked, because the production is proceeding better than expected.

Recall that Steam Deck is also on sale in Italy, with prices starting at € 409 and go up based on storage memory. Basically, the mirror is as follows:

  • 409 €: 64 GB, eMMC
  • € 549: 256 GB, NVMe SSD
  • € 679: 512 GB, NVMe SSD (there is also a higher quality anti-reflective glass treatment)

For the purchase it is necessary refer to the official Valve website; deliveries are currently scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022.

All variants are based on the same processor: an AMD APU consisting of Zen 2 quad-core CPUs between 2.4 and 3.5 GHz and an RDNA 2 GPU with 8 CUs between 1 and 1.6 GHz. The RAM amounts to 16 GB (LPDDR5). The display is a 7 “IPS LCD with a maximum brightness of 400 nit, 600 Hz refresh and a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels. The battery is 40 Wh and guarantees between 2 and 8 hours of continuous play. Charging takes place via USB-C port, max speed 45W
