In December, Google released an update for the app “Google TV”. Among the novelties of this package, the most important was the introduction of the Material You. The company, however, did not stop at this step: in fact, it would seem that the app will soon receive a widgets which will allow users to access some features of the app through the home screen of an Android smartphone.

The new widget, not yet released, has been spotted by the staff of “9to5Google”who tested it on a Google Pixel 7 Pro, which was running an unreleased version of Android 13 (this was Android 13 QPR2 beta 2.1). In detail, starting from the app version 4.38.7.4 appears in the specific list this brand new widget, which has a size of 4×5. Speaking of dimensions, the widget cannot be resized once it is added to the home screen of the phone (it can only be extended to cover the entire home screen).

To date, the widget, in the center, contains a bar with the wording “Google TV”, which when pressed opens the application on the home screen.

To the left of the writing, however, appears the search button which launches the keyboard; on the right we can identify the remote control button. Considering the size of the widget, it is conceivable that it will also show recommended content from streaming platforms connected to it, such as Amazon Prime Video and Disney+. Finally, it would appear that the widget currently doesn’t work properly on other devices.

Therefore, Google continues to work on the creation of new widgets. For example, the company is also working on new app widgets “Contacts” and “Google”. In this regard, it is likely that the three new widgets will be released simultaneously.
