New Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 set photos tease a detailed Elven city, with filming on the Amazon series underway in Britain.
New set photos from Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 reveal the construction of what appears to be an Elven city. Developed by showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay, Amazon’s series is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth and depicts younger versions of integral Lord of the Rings characters such as Galadriel and Elrond. Filming for The Rings of Power season 1 previously took place in New Zealand, where the Peter Jackson films were also produced. However, Amazon subsequently moved production on season 2 to the United Kingdom, where filming officially got underway in October 2022.
With production on The Rings of Power season 2 currently in full swing, new aerial photos taken from the Bray Studios lot reveal a set that clearly appears to be an Elven city, complete with an intricate gazebo in its center. While it is not clear what city this set is intended to be, it does bear a strong resemblance to what fans have already seen of the Elven kingdom of Eregion in season 1. First shared to Reddit by user u/yakadoodle123, the photos were later shared on Twitter by the Lord of the Rings fan account Fellowship of Fans. Check out the set photos below:
Major Middle-earth Locations Not Yet Seen In Rings Of Power
While these new set photos may potentially hint at a return to locations already explored in The Rings of Power season 1, there are still a number of important locations in Tolkien’s Middle-earth that have not yet appeared in the series. Though fans have already glimpsed the Elven kingdoms of Eregion and Lindon, Amazon’s series is still yet to introduce the woodland realm of Lothlórien, Galadriel’s eventual home. Founded by the group of Elves known as the Nandor, during the Second Age the area was ruled by the Sindarin king, Amdír, until he was killed during the Last Alliance of Men and Elves.
Another Elven realm intimately familiar to fans of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but one that is also yet to make an appearance in The Rings of Power, is that of Elrond’s Rivendell. Also known as Imladris, Rivendell was founded by Elrond during the Second Age with refugees fleeing the destruction of Eregion by Sauron’s forces. While Rivendell probably will not make an appearance in season 2, its founding is likely to feature as a significant plot point for future seasons. Especially given that Rivendell served as the primary marshaling point for the forces of the Last Alliance before they eventually marched on Mordor.
Elven cities aside, fans are also likely to see some important human locations spread throughout Middle-earth during The Rings of Power’s expected five-season run. Key among these will be the eventual founding of the twin kingdoms of Anor and Gondor by Elendil and his son Isilidur. Furthermore, beyond the boundaries of the known lands of Middle-earth, also lay the mysterious lands of Rhûn which has already been teased as the intended destination for Daniel Weyman’s stranger. With a wealth of lore still to dig into, audiences are likely to be treated to a treasure trove of richly detailed and visually stunning locales as Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power moves into season 2 and beyond.
