TIM he had announced it on the occasion of the publication of the latest fiscal results: “it will be introduced by the end of the year a mechanism for indexing prices to inflation“. And so it was, because leaving from today, 27 November, landline and mobile network offerswill be able to provide for the annual adjustment of prices to the trend of inflation, increased by a predetermined increase coefficient“.

The telephone operator communicates that:

  • all offers will have one clear indication on the presence of the annual price adjustment mechanism
  • the methods of application will always be described

Let’s first start with a clarification: as can be seen from the TIM press release (link in SOURCE), not all offers will be subject to this type of variation, or at least it is not said a priori that they may undergo changes proportional to inflation. In any case, in the foreseen cases the monthly cost will be increased every year to an extent equal to the inflation index (IPCA) recorded by ISTATto which is added a fixed coefficient of 3.5%:

monthly cost of the TIM offer = original cost x (annual inflation index + 3.5%)

(e.g.: monthly cost adjusted to inflation = 10 euros x (6% + 3.5%) = 10.95 euros

The variation

  • it will not happen in the event of deflation
  • can never exceed 10%

We will start on 1 April 2024 on the basis of 2023 data, the second variation assessment will take place on the same day of the following year, and so on.

A similar mechanism will also be applied by WindTre starting next January and will concern customers who have activated an offer by November 20 of this year. Other operators have instead made things clear: there will be no adjustment to the trend of inflation for our rates, they said.
