Iain Armitage has an adorable way to honor The Big Bang Theory as talks about Young Sheldon ending continues. Premiering in 2017, The Big Bang Theory prequel aired back-to-back with it, helping CBS dominate Thursday nights in terms of ratings. While Young Sheldon season 6 still has a couple of episodes left, filming for the year has already ended. This is the reason why the cast is now on their respective breaks before their reconvene later in the summer.

Given its prequel nature, several big storylines in Young Sheldon were decided in The Big Bang Theory, effectively establishing its natural end. Based on the timeline, George’s cheating scandal is set to happen in the next couple of months which should be followed by Sheldon’s move to Pasadena and his dad’s subsequent death. All of these plots are being saved for season 7, with the remainder of season 6 devoted to tackling ongoing narratives.

Young Sheldon is currently TV’s #1 comedy, so CBS would understandably want to keep it on the air for as long as possible. If it needs any more motivation, season 6 recorded show-high ratings. Luckily, there are a few easy ways for it to continue beyond Sheldon’s move and George’s cheating and death. Young Sheldon diversifying its storytelling is arguably the best thing it has done in the last few years. Now, it’s the primary reason why it can continue beyond its pre-determined end.

For context, CBS would have ordered at least a couple more years of The Big Bang Theory had Jim Parsons stayed. Based on this, it isn’t difficult to imagine that they would be willing to do anything to keep Young Sheldon on the air given its popularity. However, there are other factors to consider in making this decision, including the stance of people who are working on the show.
