In the run-up to Batman Day, it seems that Riddler is hijacking the Dark Knight’s social media accounts and challenging him to unmask.

DC fans everywhere are gearing up to celebrate Batman Day, and it looks like the Riddler is celebrating in his own way. The King of Conundrums has claimed Batman’s various real-world social media accounts and is rubbing it in the Dark Knight’s face.

Batman Day is an event created by DC Comics to celebrate the most popular character in their stable. The first Batman Day coincided with the 75th anniversary of the hero’s first appearance in Detective Comics #27. Since then, the annual event has been used to promote Batman in comics, movies and video games. Batman Day celebrations have only grown in the years since the inaugural event, with DC finding new and creative ways of generating buzz for the Caped Crusader.

It seems that the Batman’s rogues gallery is taking point on the celebration this year, and it all starts with the Prince of Puzzles himself, the Riddler. With a little over a week until Batman Day 2022 rolls around, Edward Nygma has seized control of the World’s Greatest Detective’s official social media accounts. The Riddler is mocking Batman across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, posting the condescending message “I’m afraid you have lost control of this account, Batman, but don’t worry — if you want it back, all you have to do is solve the riddle: WHO IS BATMAN? Don’t forget to show your work.” Along with the message, Riddler has included a video of Batman’s classic Bat Signal replaced with his question mark symbol. Nygma also changed Batman’s bio to a Morse code message that, when translated, reads “Riddle me this, riddle me that…What genius can take down the bat?“.

Unfortunately for the hero, it seems like Batman’s internet trolling is just beginning. As part of DC’s celebration for this year’s Batman Day, Bruce Wayne’s infamous baddies are each taking control of the Batman social media pages to hype up new villain-themed merchandise that will be available in DC Shop. While Gotham’s protector may be the focus of DC’s upcoming celebration, this new stunt acknowledges that Batman would be nothing without his villains.

Batman has some of the greatest villains in comics, and fans are just as engaged with them as they are the Dark Knight. It’s unlikely that Batman would have achieved the level of success he had if he hadn’t had his colorful cast of Halloween-themed criminals around to make his adventures that much more exciting. It’s only right that they seize the spotlight in the run-up to Batman Day, though it’s highly likely the Dark Knight will seize back his Twitter, Instagram and Facebook in time for the day itself. Who knows what Gotham villain will be next to taunt DC’s golden boy on his own social media accounts, but for right now, the Riddler is having the time of his life making a fool out of Batman.
