Five new character posters for Jordan Peele’s upcoming Nope have been released ahead of a new trailer that will debut in theaters in front of Jurassic World: Dominion this week. The posters feature five of the film’s stars: Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Keke Palmer (Hustlers), Michael Wincott (The Crow), and Brandon Perea (The OA), ominously looking up at the sky.

The summer blockbuster follows a group of California residents living in an isolated desert town who make a chilling discovery. A recent tv spot that aired during the NBA Finals and the new posters point to aliens, but audiences will have to wait until July 22 to find out exactly what’s going on in that California town. Universal is describing the film as “an expansive horror epic” and a “new pop nightmare.” The psychological horror, not unlike Peele’s Get Out and Us, is expected to carry underlying social themes and commentary.

What We Should Expect from Nope

With just under one month to go before the release of Nope, audiences are looking at a recently released 30-second TV spot for clues about the film:

While we know there will be extraterrestrial activity from the flying saucer shown in the spot, Peele fans have learned that there’s always more lurking underneath the surface in his films. During a 2017 interview with Business Insider, prior to the release of Get Out, the filmmaker said:

“I have four other social thrillers that I want to unveil in the next decade. The best and scariest monsters in the world are human beings and what we are capable of especially when we get together. I’ve been working on these premises about these different social demons, these innately human monsters that are woven into the fabric of how we think and how we interact, and each one of my movies is going to be about a different one of these social demons.”

The release of Nope comes after two years of development and delays related to the pandemic. Filming wrapped late last year. You can watch Nope on July 22.
