Fontaine is Genshin Impact’s next grand region, allegedly coming to HoYoverse’s RPG after Sumeru, which was released this year. The area of Teyvat, loosely based on an Industrial Revolution-Belle Époque interpretation of France, is the nation of Justice. Fontaine is ruled by the Hydro Archon, Focalors. The region has been mentioned several times through quests, and many of its elements, including characters and machinery, have been showcased in the game.

Up until now, Fontaine has been known mainly for two grand elements: artistic culture and advanced technology. Along with NPCs, such as the merchant Francis, players that ventured into Inazuma have likely encountered and dealt with the threat of the Mikage Furnace, a place that was designed by engineers that hail from Fontaine. Even recent Genshin Impact events like Fabulous Fungus Frenzy, for instance, featured Fontainian elements. The Wisdom Orb – Genshin’s version of a fungi-catching Pokéball – is a product created in the nation of Justice. Its inclusion raised more questions about when exactly Fontaine will become available.

Fontaine’s Release Date In Genshin Impact

HoYoverse has not officially set a release date for Fontaine to arrive in Genshin Impact. The exact update version it will be included in is also unknown as of now. However, it is possible to make some assumptions of when it may arrive for players to explore based on previous releases the RPG has seen in the past few years.

With the exception of Liyue (the nation of Contracts) and Dragonspine (an extension of Mondstadt), areas added to Genshin Impact near the game’s release to surmount content, HoYoverse’s title has received two distinct regions: Inazuma, the nation of Eternity, and Sumeru, the nation of Wisdom. These map expansions came in 2021 and 2022, respectively. They were released with about a one-year difference between each of them. Inazuma initially became available through version 2.0, which launched in July 2021, while Sumeru came to Genshin with version 3.0, released in August 2022.

Considering HoYoverse reinforced a four-year, four-region roadmap in 2021 (via Forbes), players are currently down to a three-year, three-region plan. With that, Fontaine is expected to arrive at some point in 2023. If the past releases serve as any indication of HoYoverse’s roadmap, Fontaine is likely coming to Genshin Impact during Summer 2023. There has been, however, a leak that claims HoYoverse is extending Genshin’s content roadmap length, which could mean Fontaine’s release may be pushed forward somehow.

Nonetheless, Genshin Impact’s roadmap has been following through steadily during the past years. If Fontaine does arrive in Summer 2023, it will be followed by the Pyro nation of Natlan, possibly in 2024, and the villainously-led Cyro nation of Snezhnaya in 2025. If HoYoverse were to expand its roadmap by some additional years, as pointed out by the aforementioned leak, after Snezhnaya, it could potentially lead them beyond the current-day Teyvat and into the ancient and lore-filled Khaenri’ah and the floating sky island of Celestia, former home of the gods. Genshin Impact players looking forward to exploring Fontaine, however, will have to wait for an official announcement weeks before the content actually goes live or stay tuned for potential leaks.
