Elite enemies are not uncommon in Diablo IV throughout different locations, but players can earn unique loot and an achievement if they track down all twenty Rare Elites that exist within Sanctuary. These named foes are different from standard Elite enemies, who are usually just regular creatures with a special power or two. Dropping gear with perhaps the highest base Power in the game, these Rare opponents are worth tracking down.
While the locations of Rare Elites are in set areas, they do not always spawn, especially if players have killed another unique Elite recently. The spawn times seem random, so there are, unfortunately, no ways to predict when Rare Elites will show up. Players that keep checking should eventually run into them, including even The Butcher, a unique Elite secret boss that shows up in dungeons from a random spawn.
Every Rare Elite Spawn Location in Diablo 4
Players should understand that these Rare Elites have far more health and deal way more damage than even regular Elites found in dungeons, Strongholds, or World Events. As a result of this strength, these “extremely rare monsters” drop Rare items with high Item Power, a stat used to give players an idea of how strong a piece of gear is. Normally reaching a cap of 825 Power, items dropped from Rare Elitesreach up to 840 Power, breaking Diablo 4‘s rules with strong loot.

Some Waypoints closest to the Rare Elites must be unlocked by overcoming Strongholds in Diablo 4, such as the Nostrava and The Onyx Watchtower. These areas have tons of enemies that must be eliminated before players activate the Wanderer’s Shrine at these locations to access the Waypoint, extra dungeons, and other NPC vendors in the area. Many Strongholds are a suitable challenge, hosting enemies always two levels above the player’s character.
All Rare Elite Enemy Unique Drops in Diablo 4
Depending on a character’s level, every Rare Elite enemy drops a Rare yellow gear item with different abilities attached. The value of these traits relies on the player’s current level, but each can be enchanted at the Occultist vendor in Kyovashad to swap out abilities. While this method is available to all players once the vendor opens up, players will need a rare item called Fiend Rose in Diablo 4 to complete any enchantment.

Not all the items dropped by Rare Elites can be used by every class, but defeating at least 15 of these foes lets players complete the “Trophy Hunter” Challenge for several new titles. Those looking for the locations of all Rare Elite enemies in Diablo IV may have to search far and wide, but the rewards make an effort worth it.
