The solution will be pre-validated and tested, saving CSPs months of testing.

More power and less consumption with Nokia In-Line Cloud RAN SmartNIC and Graviton3 CPUs from AWS

To enable advanced 5G scenarios on 5G networks, such as streaming VR and AR content, providers need to upgrade their infrastructure by adding new Massive MIMO radios. In doing so, costs and energy consumption increase. The idea of ​​Nokia and AWS is to combine Nokia Cloud RAN SmartNICs with Amazon EC2 instances based on Graviton3 processors. Cloud RAN Smart NICs will handle RAN Layer 1 features, while Graviton CPUs will handle Layer 2 features, which require less computing power. Since both Gravitons and SmartNICs are based on ARM architecture, it is also possible reduce the energy consumption of the 5G Core network up to 70%.
