Gilmore Girls might be a show about the many generations of a complicated family, but the series is also incredibly beloved for the amazing love stories it tells across seven seasons and one limited series revival. From Luke and Lorelai to Emily and Richard to Rory and Dean, Logan, and Jess, the series is filled with love stories that span years and overcome obstacles all their own.

Fans are definitely divided still in terms of which pairings they root for the most, but every fan can agree that each couple has its own merits, and certainly its own most iconic moment. From romantic declarations to long-awaited first kisses, the couples of Gilmore Girls truly have it all.

10 Paris And Doyle: Scorching The Floorboards

Paris and Doyle are one of the weirdest couples in the Gilmore Girls universe, but with all of their many neuroses and combative tendencies, they somehow make perfect sense together. Even though they might not end up together, these two share many memorable moments, including a hilarious dance number.

In the season seven episode “Knit, People, Knit!” the odd couple takes to the dance floor together at a party with a carefully choreographed dance routine set to Pink’s “Get the Party Started.” It’s hilarious and awkward and everything that these two are at their very best.

9 Logan And Rory: “You Jump, I Jump, Jack.”

The romance between Rory and Logan still remains polarizing among fans. Rory changes when she begins attending Yale, but she changes even more and not necessarily for the better when she begins to date the rich Logan. But early in their flirtation, they share a moment that shows a glimpse of what things could have been like if their relationship had changed them for the better.

In “You Jump, I Jump, Jack,” Rory accompanies Logan to an In Omnia Paratus club meeting, where she joins him in being fearless and jumping from a high platform with only an umbrella to guide them. It’s a rare reckless and carefree moment for the straight-laced Rory, and shows a side of her the series never explored before.

8 Lane And Zack: Zack Proposes At Luke’s

It’s pretty rare to find a Gilmore fan who thinks that Zack was the person Lane should have ended up with. Their relationship is rocky at best, and they don’t seem to have all that much in common apart from their band Hep Alien. But even if these two are mismatched, their relationship does have its fair share of sweet moments, including Zack’s memorable proposal at Luke’s Diner.

Even though the scene starts off as an argument between them, it leads to a profoundly emotional confession from the usually awkward Zack about how life doesn’t feel right without Lane. After he proposes, Babette and Kirk gleefully encourage Lane to “kiss him, sugar!” makes the scene one for the books.

7 Dave And Lane: When Dave Reads The Entire Bible In One Night

If Lane had to end up with anyone else in the series, most fans would argue that Adam Brody’s Dave Rygalski is the right guy for her. Their most memorable moment is one of the most romantic in the entire series, even though it doesn’t only feature the couple interacting one-on-one.

After Mrs. Kim offers Dave a quotation he doesn’t understand when he asks if he can take Lane to prom, he stays up the entire night and reads the Bible in one sitting in an attempt to find the source of the quote and decode its meaning. Dave’s most romantic gesture is the selfless act of trying to understand Lane’s family in order to find out how he can fit into it – even if it is just for prom night.

6 Dean And Rory: “I Love You, You Idiot.”

Rory’s first love might not be her forever love, but her relationship with Dean is arguably one of the most important storylines in the early seasons of Gilmore Girls. The two have a fraught breakup toward the end of season one after Rory realizes she cannot tell Dean she loves him back.

Things are icy between the former couple in the last few episodes of the season, but everything comes to a passionate, explosive stop in the first season finale. When Dean shows up at Rory’s school, they wind up arguing yet again before she proclaims “I love you, you idiot” and the two passionately kiss right in the middle of the school courtyard.

5 Max And Lorelai: 1,000 Yellow Daisies

Lorelai’s soulmate might be Luke Danes, but of all her other love interests, Max Medina is definitely the one who came closest to matching up. After Lorelai tells Max that any proposal should include “1,000 yellow daisies” when he impulsively proposes to her, Max proves that he is a man who listens – and a man who acts, too.

The next day, Lorelai arrives at her work to find the inn lobby filled with exactly 1,000 yellow daisies. The tearful phone call she exchanges with Max, in which he passionately professes his love for her and what he has learned from the great romances of epic literature, is one of the most visually and emotionally stunning scenes in the entire series.

4 Sookie And Jackson: The Picnic Proposal

“A-Tisket, A-Tasket” is one of the most beloved episodes in the history of Gilmore Girls, both because of the cute small town charm of the picnic basket auction but also because of the way it puts the spotlight on some of the series’ most beloved pairings – including the always adorable Sookie and Jackson.

Jackson throws Sookie for a loop at first when he tells her that they shouldn’t live together, only to follow up by declaring that they should get married instead. Sookie playfully asks him if he’s pregnant in her shocked state, before tearfully accepting as the sweet couple kiss on the picnic blanket.

3 Jess And Rory: “I Couldn’t Have Done It Without You.”

Jess and Rory’s romance is one that the series leaves in an incredibly unresolved place. When Jess returns in season six, he is in a far better place in his life than Rory is for the very first time, presenting a real change of the status quo that had been established years before between them.

This is made all the more evident by the fact that Jess comes bearing the book he has written, something he poignantly tells Rory that he “couldn’t have done” if it weren’t for her influence in his life. Poetically, Jess returns the favor years later, inspiring Rory to write her own novel.

2 Emily And Richard: “I Demand To Go First.”

Though they usually receive less attention than most of the series’ main couples do, except for a storyline focusing on their separation and reconciliation, there is no denying that Emily and Richard Gilmore are the truest of soulmates. It doesn’t take long for the series to establish this fact, either, as it does just that in the first season episode “Forgiveness and Stuff.”

When Richard has a heart attack, Emily tries her best to keep it together around him in the hospital, until she finally reaches her breaking point, begins crying, and tells him, “I demand to go first.” This moment is made all the more beautiful and heartbreaking in retrospect, as Edward Hermann’s passing resulted in Emily struggling to find a new purpose in A Year in the Life.

1 Lorelai And Luke: “Would You Just Stand Still?”

Other than the relationship between the Gilmore family, Luke and Lorelai’s romance is the beating heart of the entirety of Gilmore Girls, and the way in which their “will they, won’t they” relationship finally comes to a head at the end of season four is easily one of the entire show’s best moments.

Luke and Lorelai are both characters who talk far too much for their own good, often getting themselves into trouble in the process. So when they finally share their first kiss in the doorway of the new inn, it’s only fitting that they do so in order to quiet each other’s nervous ramblings, urging one another to “just stand still” and be at the moment.
