If the now-almost-adult Cassie’s role in Ant-Man 3 is as important as casting someone like Newton implies, then it’s highly likely audiences will finish the movie unable to imagine anyone else as the future Ant-Girl.
Outside of Kathryn Newton, Cassie Lang isn’t the first recasting in the MCU. Most famously, Edward Norton was Bruce Banner in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk before Mark Ruffalo was recast into the role for The Avengers. James Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine, was only Don Cheadle from Iron Man 2 onwards. In the first Iron Man movie, Rhodey was portrayed by Terrence Howard. The Ant-Man 3 Trailers Show How Central Cassie Lang Is
Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang — as seen in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailers — is set to have a huge role in the events that kick off MCU Phase 5. In fact, it is Cassie who broadcasts the signal that gets everyone sucked into the Quantum Realm —presumably by either Kang or MODOK. Moreover, it’s implied in the trailers that Kang will force Scott to choose between the fate of the Multiverse and being with Cassie. Given what Marvel has revealed about Ant-Man 3, it could even peak with the death of Ant-Man/Scott Lang, and the rebirth of Cassie as Stature in the MCU. Even if it does not, promotional material clearly shows Cassie in her own version of a Pym Particle-powered suit, hinting at big things in her future now Kathryn Newton is in the role.
